and the public.

The next EPA Congress will be held in Leiden. The Netherlands, from June 13th-16th, 2001. The venue is Naturalis, The National Museum of Natural History. Apart from lectures and discussion meetings a field trip to the Cretaceous of the Maastricht area will be offered. The costs for registration, the abstract volume and lunches will be approximately Euro 170 (EPA members), Euro 100 (students) and Euro 200 (non-members). It is high time to develop strategies towards a better understanding and positioning of palaeontology both in the scientific community and the public. The congress intends to launch an offensive in this direction. Questions that could be addressed in lectures and discussion groups include: - How should we teach palaeontology at the school and university level ? - How should research results be conveyed to a larger public ? - How should scientific problems and results be processed for the media ?

- How could[ the benefits of palaeontology be conveyed to decision-makers ? - How can we improve the image of palaeontology ? - How can museums mediate palaeontological concepts ? - How do palaeontologists satisfy demands of society ? Organization Committee: F.T. Ffirsich, W~irzburg; J.-C. Gall, Strasbourg; H. Kollmann, Vienna; W. Renema, Leiden; J.WW. Reumer, Rotterdam; J. de Vos and F.P. Wesselingh, Leiden; J.W.M. Jagt, Maastricht. More inforraation will be published in forthcoming issues of GEOBIOS. The organizing committee invites all those who are concerned about the future of palaeontology to contribute additional topics.
