FOCUS AkzoNobel expands in Asia AkzoNobel intends to construct a new manufacturing plant in Madhya Pradesh, India, to beef up its operations in the country at an investment of Rup 200 crore, in a bid to become a Rup 6800 crore entity in India by 2015. The company also announced its intention of making an entry into the wood coatings segment in India. AkzoNobel presently has five manufacturing plants across India, and the proposed plant will go online by 2013 to manufacture all its products. The new investment in the Greenfield plant and the entry into the wood coatings segment is part of AkzoNobel’s plans to quadruple sales in India by 2015, to reach €1 bn. The company also has plans to construct a new coatings plant at Changzhou, in China to cater to the increasing demand. In addition to building the new facility, the company will also construct related warehousing, quality control laboratories, and offices on the new site. The new production facility will be AkzoNobel’s 29th manufacturing location in China. There are also reports of plans to increase the production capacity of its automotive and aerospace coatings in China at an investment of €60 M. This investment in China will give a fillip to AkzoNobel’s accelerated growth strategy of targeting revenue of $2 bn in China by 2015 and also reinforce the company’s leadership in China’s refinishes market. Cytec announces price increase for powder coating resins in The Americas Cytec Industries Inc has announced to its customers a selling price increase on all powder coating resins (CRYLCOAT powder resins, ADDITOL powder resins additives, MODAFLOW additives and resins and UVECOAT powder resins) sold in North America and Latin America. The increase will be between $0.06/lb-$0.08/lb and will be effective for shipments on or after 15 Feb 2012 or as contracts allow.
