Albixon to start operation of a powder coating unit for iron and aluminium coating Albixon (Czech Republic), swimming pool, water pump and water treatment equipment manufacturer, started operating a new powder coating unit for iron and aluminium coatings in Jan 2012. It has invested more than CEK 100 M in the construction of the unit. The unit is also equipped with a decorative line enabling design coating of materials. The line will be intended mainly for coating of materials used by Albixon for swimming pool roofing. Albixon makes proceeds of about CEK 700 M/y. DuPont announces 20% growth in 2011 results DuPont has announced a 20% rise in turnover to $38 bn (€28.9 bn) in 2011. The acquisition of Danisco for almost $7 bn has contributed 5% of the total 20% growth. The Danish group has boosted sales for DuPont’s Nutrition and Health group to $2.5 bn. Sales in emerging markets grew by 27% and now account for 34% of overall group turnover. This was despite a slowing in Asian growth during the 4Q of 2011. Performance products sales were up by 23%

to $7.8 bn. Around 30% of DuPont’s sales were generated for products which had been on the market for less than 4 years. Profits were up by 14.6% to $3.5 bn. The group achieved cost savings of $900 M in 2011, far exceeding its $300 M target. Apropos’ powder coating plant awarded AkzoNobel accreditation The polyester powder coating plant of UK-based Apropos was awarded the Service First Applicator status by AkzoNobel. An AkzoNobel inspector noted that the facility has an efficient and effective powder coating operation and that coated parts observed during the audit have a high quality even finish. The facility was inaugurated in May 2011 and is capable of handling orders worth up to £15 M/y ($23.5 M/y). Cytec mulls fate of resins On 21 Oct 2011, the CEO of Cytec Industries, Shane D Fleming, announced that the company may sell its coatings resins operations. In 2010, sales of its liquid coatings, radiationcurable coatings and powder coatings amounted to $1.4 bn, with operating earnings at $68.2 M. The revenues accounted for 52% of Cytec’s total sales, but its

Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc to raise prices for speciality epoxy resins in the Americas On 2 Feb 2012, Momentive Specialty Chemicals Inc announced that it will increase off-list prices for Specialty Epoxy Resins in the Americas, effective 1 Mar 2012, or as contract terms allow. Product price increase: EPON Specialty Liquid Epoxy Resins $0.10/lb, EPON Resin Blends $0.08/lb, EPON Resin Solutions $0.08/lb, EPON Brominated Resin Solutions $0.08/lb, EPI-REZ Waterborne Resins $0.06/lb, EPON High Performance Resins $0.06/lb, and HELOXY Modifiers $0.06/lb. This increase is driven by continued cost increases of key raw materials. This is separate from the earlier announced increases for Precursors and Major Resins (Basic Liquid and Solid Epoxies, Powder Coatings Solids, Allylics, BPA and ECH) dated 31 Jan 2012.
