The site investigation gave a generally accurate picture of the geology of the site, accurately predicting t h e location of ma~cr faults an~ providing most of the ground informtion required for tunnelling. However, the rock was found to contain more Joints than was indicated by the site investigation, no doubt because of the difficulty of intercepting steeply inclined Joints with a vertical borehole.
