Donaldson adds new test labs in China, India and US
D
onaldson Co Inc has opened three new state-of-the-art test labs in China, India and the US. At the company’s regional headquarters in Wuxi, China, Donaldson has added a new testing lab in the Greater China R&D Center to support the rapid expansion of Donaldson’s Engine Products business in the region. The state-of-the-art lab, which opened on 1 August 2011, is capable of conducting a variety of performance testing including high precision restriction curves, dust holding capacity, initial and overall efficiencies, and water separation efficiency to the latest test standards. At its regional headquarters and manufacturing plant in Gurgaon, India, Donaldson has expanded its facility to include a new air intake testing lab. The new lab, which has been operational since 1 August 2011, gives Donaldson’s engineering teams full capability to provide air intake testing and product development support to local customers. “Donaldson has a global network of scientists and engineers working to design next-generation filtration technologies for our customers around the world,” said Jay Ward, senior vice president, Engine Products at Donaldson Co. “As we broaden our footprint within developed and emerging markets, these new labs will support the rigorous testing our products must endure and give us the ability to implement critical performance tests quickly, efficiently and much closer to the point of use.” On 1 May 2011, Donaldson Torit, a division of Donaldson’s Industrial Filtration Solutions business that designs, manufactures and markets industrial air filtration and pollution control systems, replacement filters and products that reduce dust, fume, and mist contaminants, opened a new test lab in Bloomington, Minnesota to evaluate combustible and noncombustible materials in new and existing filtration products. This state-of-the-art lab, that is environmentally controlled and features full suppression and isolation equipment, will allow Torit to now run full-sized tests on site. This will greatly accelerate product development that, in the past, had to be done in the field under uncontrolled conditions. “As regulations become more stringent and customer demands for higher efficiency filtration products continue to grow, the need
for state-of-the-art testing facilities becomes critical in the development of new products to meet these challenges,” said Cary Olson, director, Product Technology, in Donaldson’s Industrial Filtration Solutions business. “Our new Bloomington test lab is the latest step in Donaldson’s strategy to deliver innovative, high quality Torit filtration solutions, such as our new Torit PowerCore dust collectors, to the industries we serve.” For further information, visit www.donaldson.com

Desal delay as fire hits Hyflux warehouse in Algeria
T
he 500 000 m3/day Hyflux seawater desalination plant in Magtaa, Algeria will be delayed by nine months following a fire at a warehouse at the project site. The Hyflux warehouse which caught fire is located a few hundred metres from the construction site and housed equipment that was to be used on the project. No one was injured in the fire and all buildings erected and equipment installed at the construction site were unaffected by the fire. At the time of the fire, the project was more than 80% completed. Following the fire, all damaged equipment and other supplies will have to be reprocured. As a result, project completion is now expected to move to May 2012 from August 2011.
