PATENTS as sealants and adhesives is fitted with a plastic guide bearing to replace previous metal bearings. The material used is 25% carbon-filled PTFE and a further feature is that the bearing may be fitted without tools. Publication number: WO/2009/029926 Inventors: D.P. Ross et al. Publication date: 5 March 2009

Air duct seal plate for circularly cooling machine Applicant: Changtian International Engineering Corporation, MCC, China These two patents appear to be describing seals for the inlets of building ventilation or air conditioning systems. One includes a water balance seal to prevent contamination. Publication numbers: WO/2009/030176 and 030179 Inventor: D. Gao Publication date: 12 March 2009

Seal element, in particular secondary seal element of a slide ring seal Applicant: Burgmann Industries GmbH & Co. KG, Germany A secondary seal for a mechanical seal is described. The design of seal resembles a PTFE plastic U-seal used for rotary applications with a retaining flange. A specific feature is the reinforcing at the heel of the seal (15). Publication number: WO/2009/030298 Inventors: T. Holzapfel et al. Publication date: 12 March 2009

A section of ball valve seat and seal showing the C-seal for secondary sealing of the seat, WO/2009/032569.

Seal coating between rotor blade and rotor disk slot in gas turbine engine Applicant: Siemens AG, Germany In this patent a coating is used to seal the gap which normally exists between the bottom part of the blade root and the bottom part of the disk slot in a gas turbine rotor blade and rotor disk assembly. The coating may be applied to the blade root or to the disk itself on the bottom part of the disk slot. The coating is preferably an abradable nickel-alloy Bentonite coating. The coating may also be applied to only a portion of the areas being sealed, omitting a portion at the start of the slot, so that a lead-in is formed for easier insertion of the blades. Publication number: WO/2009/030606 Inventor: R.J. Webb Publication date: 12 March 2009

Process for producing seal Applicants: NOK Corporation, Japan This invention appears to be relevant to the moulding of flexible printed circuits (FPCs) and the seal is part of the mould design to prevent leakage of the seal material during the moulding process. This is apparently a problem where there may be several overlapping printed circuits. Publication number: WO/2009/031217 Inventors: T. Hayashi et al. Publication date: 12 March 2009

Rotary seal with improved film distribution

A secondary seal design for mechanical seals that includes a retaining flange and reinforcing at the heel, WO/2009/030298.

Applicant: Kalsi Engineering, Inc. USA A refined version of the rotary seal manufactured by this company is presented. The wavy profile on the sealing surface designed to promote lubrication is discussed in detail. Publication number: WO/2009/032248 Inventors: L.L. Dietle et al. Publication date: 12 March 2009

Dock seal with partially sliced foam core Applicant: Rite-Hite Holding Corporation, USA A seal for the surround of a loading dock is discussed. It comprises a compressible foam core that includes a series of slits of insignificant thickness. These slits can be strategically arranged and sized to adjust the seal compression characteristics at different areas of the seal. Publication number: WO/2009/032441 Inventor: D.J. Hoffmann Publication date: 12 March 2009

High-temperature ball valve seal Applicant: Fisher Controls International LLC, USA A high temperature ball valve seal is disclosed that achieves Class IV shutoff for operating temperatures above 287°C. The ball valve seal includes a C-seal positioned between a main seal and a seal body to prevent fluid from flowing through a secondary flow path when the ball valve is in a closed position. The C-seal may be formed from any temperature resistant, flexible material but examples are still awaited from the inventors. Publication number: WO/2009/032569 Inventors: S.K. Hostetter et al. Publication date: 12 March 2009 Editor’s comment: I presume that this C-seal is metal, but the example materials section of the description is left blank.

Downhole tubular seal system and method Applicant: Baker Hughes Inc, USA Disclosed herein is a metal to metal downhole tubular sealing system. When it is set, two sections deform radially outwards to seal against the bore of the outer tubular and the centre section deforms radially inwards to seal on the outside diameter of the inner tubing. Publication number: WO/2009/032589 Inventor: J.M. Harper Publication date: 12 March 2009
