Vol. 19, No. 4, Page 12 The senior projects manager of Corporate Development Consultancy, gave market forecasts for thermoplastics compounding in W. Europe at "Compounding '89," held in London in January. Strong growth in the compounding of reinforced and filled thermoplastics is forecast for the near future. Total production of thermoplastics compounds in Western Europe is expected to rise-from 3.685 million tonnes in 1988 to 3.810 million tonnes in 1990.

TURRHOPLASTICS COMPOUNDING IN RUROPE

The bulk of compound productionin Europe in volume terms, he explained, consists of colour compounds and PVC compounds. However, the 20% taken up by polyolefins and higher performance technical plastics, such as polyamides, polycarbonate, PBT, acetal and PPS, is by far the fastest growing. This compounding is carried out by some 400 compounders. About 80 of these are currently concentrating on "technical plastics," while another 80 are involved purely in PVC compounding. Some 50% of PVC compounding is carried out by the end-user. He concluded his forecast by looking at several factors that will affect the compounding sector in coming years. On the question of the open European market after 1992, he expects a more integrated end user market, with the effect that more multinational specifiers will be producing 'European' products for a 'European' market.

As well as listing the numerous potential applications, the brochure also deals with the various syntheses of the silanes. Appended to the brochure, are a comprehensive bibliography (quoting 169 sources), a brief list of technical terms intended to assist the reader, and a summary of the technical data relating to the eighteen Degussa organosilanes that are currently produced.
