EIGHTH WORLD CONFERENCE ON EARTHOUAKE ENGINEERING July 21-28, 1984 San Francisco, California, U.S.A. Purpose. The purpose of the Conference is to foster the advancement of earthquake engineering by providing a forum where earthquake scientists, earthquake engineers, structural engineers, architects, social scientists, urban planners, and other specialists can meet to exchange ideas on destructive earthquakes and how to cope with them. Topics. The technical sessions of the Conference will cover all aspects of earthquake engineering, including: i. Seismic risk and hazard. 7. Response of structures. 2. Ground motion and seismicity. 8. Repair, strengthening, and 3. Soil stability, soil-structure interretrofit of structures. action, and foundations. 9. Urban design, socioeconomic 4. Papers accepted for the Conference will be presented in one of two formats, depending on the wishes of the author: (I) a 15-minute oral presentation, with an additional 5 minutes for discussion, to an audience seated theatre style; or (2) a 2-hour display presentation of graphs, figures, and other materials to a small circulating audience. Proceedings. Papers accepted for the Conference will be published in the Conference Proceedings, which will serve as a permanent reference. The Proceedings will be distributed at the Conference. Official Language. The official language of the Conference will be English. Host Organization.
