Jointly sponsored by the Societa Italiana Gallerie (SIG) and the International Tunnelling Association (ITA}, this congress will focus on the current state of the art in underground construction techniques and procedures over the past 30 years. The technical sessions will emphasize design criteria, investigations before and during construction, construction methods, and consolidation procedures. 'Rock Mechanics--Key to Energy Production" is the theme of this thirtieth anniversary symposium on rock mechanics, sponsored by the U.S. National Committee on Rock Mechanics, NRC/NAS/NAE.
