FREE! with an aqueous stream to extract copper from the loaded organic stream to produce a stripped organic extractant process stream and a copper-rich aqueous electrolyte process stream; feeding the electrolyte process stream into an electrowinning cell to produce copper by electrowinning; and feeding one or more of the above liquid process streams to one or more cyclones to remove entrained water or entrained organic extractant from the stream before the stream is used further in the method.

U.S. Patent 5,849,173. Dec. 15, 1998 E.A. Chandross and S.G. Kosinski, assignors to Lucent Technologies Inc., Murray Hill, N.J.

A method for reshaping a substantially sharp tip of an elongated tungsten electrode to improve robustness of the elongated electrode in an arc fusion for splicing optical fibers comprising immersing in an electrolyte solution capable of dissolving an oxidation product of the elongated electrode; providing a stainless steel electrode at a distance from the elongated tungsten electrode in the electrolyte solution; causing an electrical current to flow between the elongated tungsten electrode as the anode and the stainless steel electrode as the cathode for a period of time to reshape the sharp tip into a profile having a substantially round tip, creating a reshaped elongated tungsten electrode possessing improved robustness in the arc fusion for splicing optical fibers.
