This year's Electronic Displays conference and exhibition was organized by Blenheim Online Ltd in association with the UK and Ireland chapter of the Society for Information Display (SID). The conference brought together leading international speakers, and comprised two one-day modules, each tailored to suit different levels of expertise. Both modules addressed the major technical and commercial issues arising from new displays approaches and the subsequent improvement to the technologies involved. Day 1 was dedicated to commercial and technological trends, and in particular the market for electronic displays in Europe and

New LCD products, in the form of black-and-white and multicoloured large-panel LCD technology, and super new twisted nematic LCDs with greyscaled graphics were also discussed. Finally, information display systems for passengers were studied. Day 2 of the conference was dedicted to display technology tutorials. Cathode ray tube (CRT) and plasma displays, vacuum fluorescent displays (VFD), electroluminescent displays (EL), liquid crystal displays and display applications (LED), new advances and applications; integrated optical filter systems - - future develop-

ments and applications; electrochromic displays - - technological developments and new applications; vacuum fluorescent display technology for automotive applications; high-resolution CRT displays. The exhibition itself, in its 15th year, brought together a powerful gathering of industry names, from the large conglomerates to the smaller yet just as important minnows. The common denominator between all companies exhibiting at ED 88 was a desire to present the very latest technology developments and trends in electronic displays; everything from basic displays components to full turnkey display systems.
