Announcement
EUROPEAN ASSOCIATION OF ORGANIC GEOCHEMISTS (EAOG) CALL FOR CANDIDATES FOR EAOG BOARD MEMBERSHIP In September 2011, our present chairman, Ger van Graas, will finish his mandate after a 4 year term and will be replaced by Artur Stankiewicz (present treasurer). In addition, the first term of two of the EAOG Board members (Lorenz Schwark and Philippe Schaeffer) ends in September. Both have indicated that they are willing to stand for re-election and their candidacy is strongly supported by the Board. Pim van Bergen has accepted an invitation to be the Board candidate for the vacant treasurer position (short cv attached). In accord with the Articles of EAOG, other candidates can also stand for election, providing their nomination is supported by at least seven EAOG members and includes a declaration by the candidate that she/he is prepared to serve as a member of the Board. The candidate should also supply a short biography and, optionally, a short election address, both together not exceeding one page. Nominations must be received by the EAOG secretary not later than 30th June 2011 at the following address (preferably by e-mail): Philippe Schaeffer Laboratoire de Biogéochimie Moléculaire Institut de Chimie de Strasbourg Université de Strasbourg E.C.P.M. 25 rue Becquerel 67200 Strasbourg, France e-mail:
[email protected] In case of nominations in addition to those from the Board, the established procedure requires that election of the Board members be by ballot of the EAOG membership. Ballot forms will be sent by e-mail during August 2011 and will also be available on the web-

site. Members not receiving a ballot form should contact the Secretary. The results will be made public at the EAOG General Assembly in Interlaken in September 2011. The term for new Board mebers is for four years, with re-election being possible once. If there are no additional nominations to those of the Board, there will be no ballot, and the Board’s nominees will be elected during the General Assembly. Pim Van Bergen – brief curriculum vitae Pim van Bergen studied organic geochemistry at the OGU in Delft (which moved to NIOZ in 1993) between 1990 and 1994, culminating in his PhD on the geochemical changes in modern and fossil plant material using analytical pyrolysis. Subsequently, he joined the Bristol organic geochemistry group (1994 – 1997) working on extracts, high molecular weight compounds and stable isotopes to determine the fate of soil organic matter. In 1997, he became senior lecturer at the Earth Sciences Department, Utrecht University, to head the daily activities of the organic geochemistry unit. In 2002, he joined Shell, initially integrating geochemistry with flow assurance engineering and downstream refinery processes. Between 2006 and 2009, he worked on global exploration and reservoir geochemistry projects and actively promoted the application of GC x GC technology for petroleum geochemistry in Shell. Since 2009, he has been the regional Geochemist supporting daily operations for Shell’s upstream E & P organisation in Europe. Pim has actively participated in all IMOG meetings since Manchester 1991 and has served on two IMOG scientific committees (Nancy, Seville).
