Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of MD on the risk of cardiovascular event onset and cardiovascular mortality in patients who have suffered an Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS). Materials and methods: A perspective, multicenter study of ten yearfollow-up (GREECS-Greek Study of ACS) was conducted (2004-2014). In the study 2.172 individuals (76% male) with ACS were enrolled from 6 hospitals in urban and rural Greek regions. In the information obtained anthropometric and socio-demographic characteristics, lifestyle habits, nutritional and psychological assessment and medical history were included. To assess the degree of adherence to the MD, the MedDietScore tool (range: 0-55) was used. The statistical analysis included: a) analysis of descriptive characteristics and b) development of multiple logarithmic regression models. Results: Greater adoption of the MD was associated with lower risk for fatal cardiovascular event (OR: 0,979, 95%CI: 0,960-0,998) after adjustment for age and sex. However, the statistical significance of the Mediterranean dietary pattern was attenuated (OR: 0,977, 95%CI: 0,953-1,002) when traditional cardiovascular risk factors were added to the model. The factor that seems to affect the relationship of the MD with cardiovascular mortality is physical activity. The level of adherence to the MD was not associated with the onset of a new cardiovascular event. Conclusions: The adoption of the MD reduces the risk of a fatal cardiovascular episode, without affecting the risk of next cardiovascular event in patients with ACS. Department of Nutrition-Dietetics, Technological Educational Institute of Crete, Siteia, Greece; 2 Department of Food Science and Nutrition, University of the Aegean, Mirina, Limnou, Greece Introduction: Wild greens and herbs of Crete were an integral part of traditional Cretan diet, providing numerous bioactive components important for reduction of diseases risk and for health promotion. Aim: To investigate the frequency of wild greens and herbs consumption and a comparison between urban and rural areas of Crete (Countries of Heraklion and Rethymnon). Materials and methods: 200 men and women volunteers, aged between 18 and 70 years old, completed a questionnaire about the frequency of wild greens and herbs consumption. Half of them were residents of Heraklion city, while the rest of them were residents of the mountain villages of Rethymno County (Melambes, Anogia, Kamariotis). Then, a comparison of the frequency of consumption between the two populations, as well as correlations with nutritional and behavioral factors, was carried out. The results were processed with the SPSS v.17 statistics program through the use of correlation factors.T-test and one-way ANOVA were applied. Results: The village residents eat more often wild greens and herbs (2-4 times per week), compared with city residents (1-2 times per month) (p<0.05). The most often consumed greens are purslane and capers, while the most often consumed herbs are chamomile, sage and dittany. Increased consumption of greens and herbs in rural areas was associated with increased physical activity (mainly rural employment) and a reduced incidence of smoking and coffee consumption. Conclusion: The nutrition assessment with purpose to increase the frequency of consumption of wild greens and herbs from urban residents can play an important role towards improving health, via possible degenerative diseases prevention. Aim: The aim of our study is to analyze the association between ApoE alleles variation and obesity-related trades in adults of Northern Greece. Material and methods: There were 275 participants (95 men/176 women), 18- 77 years. Body weight was measured by TANITA BWB-800S scale, height by Seca 213, body fat by DEXA and waist circumference with anelastic measuring tape. All participants wore light clothing and all measurements took place after at least 8h of fasting. DNA was isolated from plasma. For the statistical analysis one-way ANOVA and c2 test was used. Results: Obesity markers, expressed as Mean ± StdErr, were found to be as follows: BMI was 28.06±0.43 and 26.6±0.39, body fat 26.32%±0.77 and 35.25%±0.61, WRH 0.98±0.01 cm kai 0.89±0.01 cm and WC 93.83±1.23 cm and 79.76±0.98 cm, for men and women, respectively. The 62.6% of participants were overweight and obese. The allele frequencies were ApoE2 8,8%, ApoE3 81,7% kai ApoE4 9,5%. There seems to be an association between ApoE2 alleles and a higher BMI, WC and body fat compared to the other two types ApoE3 and ApoE4. However significant difference was found only regarding body fat (p¼0.035). Conclusion: АpoE gene polymorphism seems to affect body fat of healthy adults. EVALUATION OF RESTAURANTS

Department of the Science of Dietetics-Nutrition, Harokopio University, Athens, Greece Introduction: Technological solutions provided to consumers with the aim of nutritional information, could constitute a major challenge of interaction among caterers and consumers, with healthier choices as a common goal. Aim: Evaluation of an Electronic Intelligent System of Personalized Dietary Advice (DISYS) which runs algorithms, analyzes the nutritional value of each meal as well as the impact on consumers’ health. This application software was developed under the Act of “Development of Industrial Research and Technology (PAVET) 2013”. Materials and methods: The electronic application was evaluated by 75 final users, with specially designed questionnaires. Subjects were recruited during July-August 2015. They were selected from two restaurants in Athens, a hotel in Chalkidiki and dietary offices. Results: DISYS was characterized as an easy-to-use, comprehensive and useful tool. Volunteers consider that this application contributes to overall health by enabling the regulation of body weight throughout healthier choices, calories intake reduction and self-monitoring. Concerning information provided, half of users classified it as full-efficient, while 25% of them mentioned that the origin of recipes ingredients was incomplete. Furthermore, the majority of users intents to use the app on a weekly basis. Finally, during the evaluation of app’s suggestions gustatory satisfaction, most of users seemed to be quite satisfied. Conclusions: Application software, designed for provision of nutritional information, seem to be useful for customers as they recommend appropriate nutritional options. Τhey seem also to be an effective tool for restaurant owners, who provide value-added services, as well as for nutritionists.
