TRUDY FOR MASTERBATCH PRODUCTION
18, No.
7, Page 15
A twin screw extruder masterbatch compounding system for short run (2-3 tonnes) compounds from Betol Machinery enables high filler loadings, and the use of heat and/or shear sensitive additives. The modular screw and barrel sections of the new BTS range are fully interchangeable. In masterbatch compounding, the intermeshing screw profile allows high degrees of dispersion for heavily loaded masterbatches. The machine incorporates a hydraulically assisted barrel withdrawal mechanism for rapid access to the screws for cleaning.

The Vibra Blender from Vibra Screw Inc., Totowa, NJ 07511 features a mixing rotor designed to work in conjunction with the mixer's controlled-vibration design. Controlled vibration is said to fluidize the material as it enters the mixing trough. The rotor, with modified cuts and fold flights, moves the material along the Fluidized material flows readily back through the cut trough. openings in the flights, ensuring longitudinal mixing, the manufaeturer says, while the flight folds induce thorough radial blending. The combination of vibratory conditioning, backward flow, and radial mixing is said and uniform blend with minimal power use.
