Sartorius expands manufacturing operations in Puerto Rico
S
artorius has started up its expanded manufacturing operations in Yauco, Puerto Rico, after an investment of more than US$100 million. Over a three-year construction period, the German company has substantially extended its plant in Yauco, more than doubling production capacity of membrane filters and single-use bags for biopharmaceutical manufacture. This is the first time that Sartorius has created substantial capacity outside its headquarters in Göttingen, Germany for the manufacturing of filter membranes. Currently, more than 500 people work at Sartorius in Yauco. The 190 000 sq m Yauco site is designed for further long-term growth, and Sartorius will be able to at least double its manufacturing capacity as needed. Sartorius has been manufacturing filters in Yauco since 1982, and sterile single-
use bags since 2012. The US market is primarily supplied from the Yauco site. “Operationally and strategically, this expansion is an important investment for us,” said Sartorius executive board chairman and CEO Joachim Kreuzburg. “The considerably higher production capacities created as a result now give us leeway to deliver an even wider product array directly from the region to our American customers and to implement our ambitious growth plans in the Americas.” “Puerto Rico stands out as offering a business-friendly environment and a favourable investment climate. Yet what is even more important for us is that for more than 35 years, we have had a team of capable and reliable staff in place, who ensure excellent product quality and delivery deadline compliance,” added Kreuzburg. Filtermist acquires Carter Environmental Engineers’ air services division
U
K industrial air filtration specialist Filtermist International Ltd has purchased the assets of Carter Environmental Engineers (CEE) Ltd’s air services division. The deal includes the rights to manufacture the Carter range of dust extraction equipment, which consists of dry dust filters, booths and benches and wet collectors. “Dust extraction is a huge growth area for our business,” said James Stansfield, CEO of Filtermist International. “We acquired Dustcheck Ltd in 2017 for its expertise in manufacturing process and venting filters used in a variety of industries and this
capability adds to three other companies we own that all offer a full turnkey dust extraction systems service.” Stansfield said they were confident that the Carter wet collectors will perfectly complement Filtermist’s existing product range. “Our systems companies – Cades Ltd, DCS Ltd and Multi-Fan Systems – currently source wet collectors from external suppliers so having this resource in-house will significantly bolster our offering to customers,” explained Stansfield. The Carter range of wet collectors will be rebadged as the Dustcheck CycloVent, Dustcheck NonFlam, Dustcheck-Midac and Dustcheck Auto Sludge. Continued on page 2...

“The design and technology behind the products will remain exactly as they are now… it will literally just be the product names that change. All details will be added to Dustcheck’s website over the next few weeks,” added Stansfield. This is Filtermist’s second acquisition of 2019. Earlier this year, Filtermist announced that it had successfully completed the acquisition of the Yorkshire-based DCS Group of Companies, a designer, supplier, installer and commissioner of fume and dust extraction systems. Earlier acquisitions include the customised air movement and air pollution control systems specialist Multi-Fan Systems in 2016 and the dust filtration systems manufacturer Dustcheck Ltd in 2017. Telford-based Filtermist, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, is part of the Swedish Absolent Group which also owns Absolent AB, Avani Environmental and German company Bristol T&G International GmbH.

etso has signed an agreement to acquire McCloskey International, the Canadian mobile crushing and screening equipment manufacturer. The acquisition will expand Metso’s presence in the global aggregates industry. McCloskey, which employs around 900 employees in Canada, the US and Northern Ireland, had pro forma sales of C$464 million (E308 million) in the 12-month period ended 30 September 2018. “This acquisition is in line with Metso’s profitable growth strategy. The different cycles of aggregates balance our previously more mining focused Minerals portfolio well,” said Pekka Vauramo, Metso www.sealingtechnology.info president and CEO. “This acquisition supports our expansion plans to approach customers through multiple complementary channels and offerings to meet their diverse needs,” said Markku Simula, president of Metso’s Aggregates Equipment business. “Going
