. Otto Gehrckens GmbH & Co KG (COG), a major supplier of precision seals that is based in Germany, has developed Vi 770 – described as a high-performance fluoroelastomer (FKM) for applications in the pharmaceutical and food-processing sectors. The material has been shown to meet strict hygienic design standards and have good capability with cleaning-in-place (CIP) and sterilisation-in-place (SIP) processes. In addition, it meets the increasing demand in the industry for seal materials that are certified to be free from animal derived ingredients (ADIs). Like all hygienic seal compounds from COG, Vi 770 also has the key industry-related FDA 21 approval, complies with CFR 177.2600, USP Class VI and Regulation (EC) No. 1935/2004, and meets 3-A sanitary standard 18-03. Company News Sonardyne acquires maritime and marine science specialist CTG

L

eading subsea technology developer Sonardyne International Ltd has acquired maritime and marine science specialist Chelsea Technologies Group Ltd (CTG). According to Sonardyne, this acquisition is part of its long-term growth strategy to diversify into markets where it sees an opportunity to build on its core technology base and expertise in underwater acoustic and optical communications, navigation and autonomous monitoring systems.

December 2018

In acquiring CTG, the company will both strengthen its presence in the maritime, marine and ocean science sectors and create new opportunities in the water environmental, defence and process control markets. CTG will gain access to Sonardyne’s considerable research, production, testing, compliance and global distribution capabilities – enabling it to access many more international territories. CTG, based in West Molesey, Surrey, UK, has a broad base in environmental sensing technology, spanning markets in fresh water and wastewater, oceanography and a wide range of industrial applications. In addition to its optical engineering capability, it provides underwater acoustic products to both civilian and defence customers. Fuelled to no small degree by its involvement in the rapidly developing, maritime/green shipping markets, where it has introduced a number of new products, CTG has seen considerable expansion over recent years. Its innovations include FastBallast and SeaSentry, used for ship ballast water compliance testing and ship exhaust gas scrubber, wash-water monitoring. These are helping maritime operators meet recently introduced stringent international regulations aimed at reducing the impact of global shipping operations on the environment.
