PHILIPPINE PUMPS GET SMART A solar powered, prepaid municipal water distribution system is operating in Ronda, Cebu, the Philippines. The Ronda system uses WorldWater Corp’s AquaCard (smart card) debit card system, which operates directly with the company’s AquaMeter solar pumping stations throughout the community. The AquaCard is inserted into the AquaMeter solar pumping station and the requested number of litres of water is dispensed and the card is debited. A microchip reads when the card needs to be recharged by the customer at the community bank. Funds collected by the community bank are turned over to the local government, which then repays the loans used to purchase and install the equipment from WorldWater. The local municipality also receives a percentage of the funds for other infrastructure improvements. WorldWater keeps an operations and maintenance contract with the municipality for at least the life of the 10-year loan.

GRUNDFOS EXPANDS HUNGARIAN PRODUCTION The new 14 500 sq m Grundfos facility in Tatabánya, Hungary doubles the previous capacity of this purpose built pump production facility. The plant will play a key role in the production of the recently released TP range of in-line pumps. The flexible facility is capable of producing multiple product types side-byside on the same production line. This makes it possible to achieve mass customization, where every pump meets an individual specification. A specialist team assesses each individual order and grades it according to the customisation required. The production programme is then set to meet maximum efficiency, while delivering to actual requirements. As a result a pump can be assembled from standard components, to a customer’s precise requirements and manufacture completed within 24 hours.
