(I) and 0.05-1.0 pt.wt. of stabiliser consisting of calcium salt of fatty acid and zinc salt of fatty acid per 100 pts.wt. of vinyl chloride type resin. A = alkali metal ion, alkaline earth metal ion, ammonium ion or hydrogen ion, M = tetravalent metal, n = number of n = O-6, c = 2 or 1 and d3 or 2. Vinyl chloride type resin is e.g. polyvinyl chloride or copolymer of vinyl chloride with other monomer such as ethylene or propylene. Phosphate type cpd. used as anti-microbial agent is e.g. cpds. of formulas, Ag0.005Li0.995Zr2(P04)2.1.2 H20. Use/Advantage The film has good anti-microbial effect and anti-mould effect. Also the film is stable to light. In an example, a vinyl chloride stretch film for packing foods was prepd. by using Ag0.10H0.40Na0.50 Zr2(P04)3 as anti-microbial agent and stabiliser consisting of calcium salt of fatty acid, zinc salt of fatty acid, etc.
Cross-flow filtration of contaminated liq - esp. from cleaning equipment in food industry SCHWEIZEIDGENOSSENSCHAFT EIDGENOSSISCHE 93.07.15 93CH-002198 JOI P43 (96.06.14) BOBB 3/14, BOID 36104, 61116 Addnl. Data: HENCK M A
A novel nucleotide sequence involved in invasion of cultured HeLa cells by Salmonella enterica ssp. enterica serovar: typlzi(S. @phi), is either the 97-1755 or 1766-2255 region (designated iagA and iagB, respectively) of an approx. 2.4 kb. sequence reproduced. Use - ON are useful as primers and probes for detection of Salmonella, e.g. in food. ON based on iagA may be specific for S.enterica of gp., others can detect S.enterica and/or S.bongoti of gps. Advantage - ON allow specific or general detection of Salmonella with good sensitivity, speed, ease and specificity.
Processing of contaminated cleaning liquors and alkaline process solns. is carried out by cross-flow filtration using ceramic membranes with a partition limit of 0.005-1.4mm. Use - Esp. for treating liquids from cleaning of plant and equipment used in the food industry. Advantage - The process recovers a clear cleaning liq. for re-use, has reduced water, acid and alkali consumption, produces reduces mounts of waste water and removes food residues (fats, proteins, sugar and carbohydrates), their degradation produces (soaps, glycerin, peptides, etc.) and/or mineral residues (Ca, Mg, P, Na, etc.) while leaving high contents of active cleaning components (NaOH, wetting agents, soaps, complexing agents, corrosion inhibitors, sequestering aids, etc.).

Bacteria detection method comprises adding a labelled phage with the bacteria to be detected as a host to the specimen and measuring signals originating from the label. The detection device comprises a specimen treatment part where the bacteria in the specimen is infected with a labelled phage, a detector which detects signals derived from the label and a data treatment part which treats the data from the detector. Use - The device can be used for the assessment of bacteria in e.g. sea water, factory waste, sewage and foods such as juice and beer, for the diagnosis of specific pathogenic infection in animals and humans and for the early detection of specific plant pathogenic infections. Food Control 1997 Volume 8 Number 1
Food in cans, glass jars or other containers placed in an autoclave is sterilised under pressure and afterwards cooled. In a separate storage vessel water is steam-heated and transferred into the autoclave , where steam raises the temp. to the sterilisation value. The water is recirculated over the autoclave contents during the sterilisation time. The charge is then cooled by cold water. During sterilisation, process water passes through the prim. circuit of a heat exchanger. The sec. circuit is steam heated in. During cooling, the heat exchanger cools the process water by passing cold water in a countercurrent heat exchanger through the sec. circuit, from which the storage vessel is subsequently filled with the warmed water. Use - The process is used for the sterilisation and cooling of food in containers. Advantage - The process maintains hygienic conditions whilst conveying energy. In this process, water of acceptable quality is supplied to the storage vessel, whilst the use of the heat exchanger in heating and cooling prevents thermal shock. The process prevents accumulation of leaked food in the water. To complete the cooling process, the heat exchanger mav be supplied with cooling tower water, which will not come into direct contact with the charge.
