OHIO-Former chief of drug studies branch of HEW, T. Donald Rucker has joined the faculty of Ohio State University college of pharmacy. Rucker plans to concentrate on particular needs of students, design of graduate training programs and policy issues for development of large prescription drug programs and related research . . . . Applications are being accepted for graduate program and residency in clinical hospital pharmacy at Ohio State. Beginning July 1, program is sponsored by college of pharmacy, University Hospitals, Grant Hospital and Riverside Methodist Hospital. Hopponen was guest speaker at Oct. 18 meeting of S.Dak. Student APhA Chapter meeting. New roles of pharmacist as adviser, monitor of drugs, consultant and health educator were discussed.

Discussed were trophoblastic diseases, bone marrow studies, diagnostic use of radioisotopes and toxoplasma. NORTH CAROLINA-APhA member James L. Olsen, University of N.C. school of pharmacy drug product program director, has been named National Institute of Mental Health consultant. Olsen will review and analyze experimental approaches on preparations of narcotic antagonist drugs . . . . At Oct. 11 meeting of N.C. Student APhA Chapter, N.C. Pharmaceutical Assn. President Don Miller discussed o-t-c products and the benefits associated with pharmacy organization membership.

Lambert Award in recognition of the hospital's pharmaceutical information hotline as "an innovative and imaginative idea designed to improve patient care or reduce health costs." Carner was presented with the third of ten awards at a special dinner ceremony in Princeton, New Jersey, recently. Mrs. Gerald H. Lambert (right) established the award program in 1971 in memory of her husband who was an innovator in government, business, housing and other fields. Trustee of the award program, George Gallup (left), presented the award to Carner, who also was recognized for instituting an approach in hospital medication systems resulting in a savings of $115,000 a year on payroll costs. UTAH-Seminar sponsored by McGaw Labs was conducted Nov. 9-10 by Health Service's Corp. to instruct pharmacists, nurses and administrative personnel in current ideas and trends in IV therapy, hyperalimentation and IV additive programs. VIRGIN lA-A former heroin addict spoke with members of University of Va.-VPhA Student APhA Chapter members Oct. 24 on her experiences and her rehabilitation progress at a methadone clinic. WASH I NGTON-APhA Handbook of Non-Prescription Drugs is being used in continuing education program of Puget Sound APhA Chapter. Respiratory disease and dermatological disorders were among topics discussed by academic experts and pharmacy practitioners at recent lectures. Antacids will be discussed on Feb. 4 and laxatives and antidiarrheals on Feb. 18.

National Scene ASSOCIATIONS-Former APhA staff member, Michael Zagorac Jr., has been named NACDS staff vice president. Previously NACDS director of public affairs, Zagorac will continue his responsibilities in government and pharmacy relations . . . . At NARD annual meeting Oct. 1-5 in Chicago, APhA members and community pharmacists Marvin Graber of Chicago and Carl E. Bain of Richmond, Va., were honored with NARD-Merck Sharp & Dohme award and NARD-Lederle interprofessional service award, respectively. The Lester I. Smith family of Levittown, N.Y., which includes three pharmacists, was honored as outstanding pharmacy family of the year at meeting.
