Gelfilm implants are gradually absorbed and produce a temporary scleral buckle. 500 Series silicone sponge components designed specifically for those surgeons who prefer the episcleral technique with cryotherapy. For those who prefer the sponge procedure with the added security of the circling modality, IMEX grooved sponges accommodate either Circling bands #40S or #240S. Because Silicone Scleral Sponge is compressible and elastic, the element must be placed on a great circle of the globe with adequate episcleral fixation to minimize the possibility of "rollover" and loss of scleral buckling.
