Evoqua agrees to divest Memcor product line to enable it to focus on core technologies

E

voqua has agreed a plan to divest its Memcor membrane line of products to DuPont Safety & Construction. According to Evoqua, which provides a range of water and wastewater treatment systems and technologies, and mobile and emergency water supply systems and services, the sale of Memcor will enable it to focus on core products and technologies, in line with its strategy towards digitally enabled, recurring revenue-based businesses. However, it says that it will continue to design, source and assemble membrane-based systems for customers, incorporating component technologies from partners whose core competence resides in membrane development and manufacturing. The transaction, which includes the product line’s global workforce, its manufacturing site in Windsor, Australia, associated operations and intellectual property, is expected to close by the end of 2019, subject to customary terms and closing conditions. The two companies already work together on ion exchange and reverse osmosis technologies. Under this collaboration DuPont supplies materials for Evoqua’s systems. This relationship will now be

extended to cover low-pressure membranes and to strengthen their strategic partnership. Commenting on the divestment, Ron Keating, CEO, Evoqua, said: ‘This transaction is an excellent opportunity for Memcor and its employees to align with DuPont’s strength in membrane development and material science.’ ‘Evoqua’s strategy is to source components that we can incorporate into innovative products, and integrated solutions and services, which align with our strengths. We are confident that the Memcor product line will thrive under DuPont’s leadership and we look forward to continuing our decades-long business relationship to bring integrated membrane-based systems and solutions to the market place.’ H.P. Nanda, Global Vice President and General Manager, DuPont Water Solutions, added: ‘The addition of Evoqua’s ultrafiltration portfolio opens additional market spaces for DuPont, including membrane bioreactors, submerged and pressurised ultrafiltration systems, bringing more choice and opportunity for customers.’ For further information, visit: www.evoqua.com &  www.dupont.com/industries/safety-and-protection.html

H2O Innovation strengthens its speciality chemicals business by acquiring Genesys

C

anada’s H2O Innovation Inc has acquired a group of UK privatelyowned companies that develop and manufacture speciality chemicals used in water treatment. De.mem’s proprietary MF membrane is targeted at clients in the food and beverage industry

A

ustralian–Singaporean water and wastewater treatment company De.mem Ltd is now offering a proprietary microfiltration (MF) membrane, which it has developed in-house for specific applications in the food and beverage sector. The hollow-fibre membrane, with a relatively large pore size and increased flux that allows greater throughput of liquids, complements the company’s technology portfolio, adding to its existing hollow-fibre nanofiltration (NF) and ultrafiltration (UF) technologies (also see ‘De.mem advances its hollow-fibre ultrafiltra14

Membrane Technology

tion and nanofiltration membrane technology’, Membrane Technology, August 2019, pages 5–7). MF membranes are deployed on a standalone basis – often also used as a pretreatment for other separation processes such as UF and as a post-treatment for granular media filtration. The company says that the potential applications for its MF membranes are extensive. For example, they can be deployed in the processing of beverages such as wine and beer, and for dairy products, and used in potable and wastewater treatment. The technology also can

be used as a pre-filter to its existing UF and NF processes. ‘With the launch of this product, we are further enhancing our product range in an effort to offer our customer-base a comprehensive suite of membrane-based products. We provide attractive technologies and products for both potable and wastewater treatment applications, and food and beverage industry production requirements,’ said Andreas Kroell, CEO, De.mem.
