is an excellent puFchasefor all therapy managers, both 88 a bench mark of excellent practice and a learning tool for managers embarking on new careers. with the original publication, this booklet is a considerably more professional production. It is the annual report of the Therapy Semces Quality Assurance Strategy, outlining the changes and action planefor 199415 as a result of the audit in 199314. It is a very impressive document outlining the methodology of the audit used, in addition to the standar& and results ofthe audit. The format of the document, following the results of the 199314 audit, lists the standards and criteria on the left hand pages with the list and space for comment on the right hand pages. me appendices supply copies of correspondence to the heads of departments to ascertainprogress on the audit programme in addition to a copy of the patient idormation suIvey used, clinical audit forms and various other questionnaires to SM. Ann ~ ~and her t teame have ~ set a very high standard for the rest of us to follow and they need to be congratulated on the publication which enables their work to be widely disseminated. s E Jackso,, MCSP
A relatively brief medical summary with some detail of the virus and opportunistic infections is followed by more detailed chapters written by an occupational therapist, physiotherapist, dietitian and social worker giving a good insight into areas and ways in which they work. There is also a particularly interesting chapter highlighting both positive and negative aspects of the service from a client's point of view. There are clear illustrations and the book makes good use of tables and other visual methods of presentation. There are practically statistics or figures.Case studies are used for effective illustration.
The book addresses the multidisciplinary approach to holistic client-centred patient care, well stressing the importanceof the 'team approach' and the necessity for team members to have a good understanding of each other's role within the team. I feel this book would be relevant for both students and health care professionals, etc, with an interest in or already working within H N and AIDS who have relatively little clinical experience in this field. I suggest it should be available in libraries and general departments.

It is a thought-provoking book which builds on the author's previous work and would be appropriate for anyone involved in research, especially those interested in investigating the sociocultural aspects of health care, but it would also be useful for managers who are developing policy and implementing Tracy
