BOG Model Society Award Massachusetts Society of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery (MSO-HNS) The Massachusetts Society, led by president Wendy Stern, MD, is represented on the Board of Governors by governor Stephen A. Smith, MD; legislative representative Terry J. Garfinkle, MD; and public relations representative, Jerry M. Schreibstein, MD. As a participant in several public awareness activities, MSO-HNS and the Yul Brynner Head and Neck Cancer Foundation organized a statewide free oral cancer screening. Society members hosted the screenings at hospitals, clinics, and in a health van throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The members also educated the public on the hazards of smoking and using smokeless tobacco products. MSO-HNS is one of the few specialty societies to have participated in all three areas of the Massachusetts Medical Society’s Physician Focus, a monthly media and public information campaign using print, radio, television, and internet media. Wendy Stern wrote an article and secured a radio spot to increase awareness about oral cavity cancer and promote the free screening program. Drs. Stern and Schreibstein participated in a public awareness video, which continues to be aired on over 90 local public access stations.

Currently at the New York Presbyterian/ Columbia Medical Center, Dr. Tadros served earlier on the Governing Council as a member-at-large in the Section for Residents and Fellows (SRF), and contributed to Academy Committees such as Women in Otolaryngology, Instruction Course, and Big-on-Goals. A committed supporter of the Academy, she has diligently informed residents about ways to become involved in Academy committees, promoted the travel grants program for the annual meeting, and worked to expand international outreach as coordinator of the SRF Task Force on International Relations. Her work has been recognized with an “Outstanding Leadership Award” from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). She has also published award-winning articles in several otolaryngology journals and contributed to a number of research projects and presentations.
