ADVANCES IN OPHTHALMOLOGY AND OPTOMETRY PREFACE
How to Keep Current in the Information Deluge

ountless articles concerning eye care in journals, book chapters, ‘‘throw-away’’ journals, newspapers, and magazines continue to flood our mail, our Internet, and our offices. Last year, Advances in Ophthalmology and Optometry, Volume 1, attempted to help us assimilate all the new knowledge in a new way. We looked at the ‘‘hot’’ topics in the subspecialties of ophthalmology and in optometry published in the past year. We asked experts in each of the fields to choose meaningful topics and to discuss them in terms of their relevance to us now and in the future. Our effort was successful. Now with the second volume, we continue to explore the new ideas, new treatments, and new ways of doing things to give us a new frame of reference to sort through the crush of data and to make sense in a real way of how to proceed. We do hope that you enjoy reading this issue and share our enthusiasm for what the authors have accomplished in giving us their insights.
