A

spot check of pharmacists in independent community pharmacies, chain stores, hospital pharmacies and governmental pharmacies reveals a variety of methods for keeping drug information as brochures, product information index cards and package inserts. Here are some examples of this survey which may provide helpful ideas on how to conform to the requirements of the new FDA "full disclosure" program.

Roland P. Galley of Arlington, Virginia (Galley Prescription Center) keeps package inserts filed along with other current product information in a three-by-five and a four-by-six drug information file. These files are supplemented by manufacturers' catalogs and other standard drug reference sources.

Louis P. Jeffrey, pharmacist-in-chief at Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany, New York, checks his extensive filing system containing many thousands of pieces of product information. The file serves as a ready reference library for physicians, nurses and other professional personnel at the Medical Center. A reprint of Jeffrey's American Journal of Hospital Pharmacy (January 1961) article on drug information filing systems is available from the author on request.

One unit of a drug chain (Drug Fair of Washington, D.C.) utilizes a three-ring binder for filing package inserts in alphabetical order. Here David Russ checks recent package inserts with the binder to determine whether they too should be added to the file. Vol. NS2, No.2, Febru ary 1962
