ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL PATHOLOGY e104 Abstracts PPC-098 - IMMUNOSTAINING OF INTERLEUKIN-17 AND RORgT IN SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA OF THE LIP AND TONGUE. THÂMARA MANOELA MARINHO BEZERRA, MÁRCIA CRISTINA DA COSTA MIGUEL, ÉRICKA JANINE DANTAS DA SILVEIRA, CASSIANO FRANCISCO WEEGE NONAKA, BÁRBARA VANESSA DE BRITO MONTEIRO, JOABE DOS SANTOS PEREIRA. UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO RIO GRANDE DO NORTE. Objective: To analyze the immunoexpression of interleukin (IL)-17 and RORgt in lip and tongue squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), correlating that expression with clinicopathological findings in order to better understand the role of T helper (Th)17 cells on tumor immunity in oral SCCs. Materials and Methods: Quantitative analysis of IL-17 and RORgt immunostained lymphocytes on the peritumoral inflammatory infiltrate was performed. These findings were compared according to clinicopathological data. Results: There was a predominance of low-grade malignancy lesions on the lip and high-grade lesions on the tongue (p ¼ 0.024). Immunohistochemical analysis showed a larger amount of IL-17 immunopositive lymphocytes in SCC of the lip (p ¼ 0.028). Regarding RORgt, no statistically significant difference was found between groups (p ¼ 0.915). Conclusion: A possible antitumor role of IL-17 in SCC of the lip was suggested. The results of RORgt analysis possibly are due to the duality of the protumor and antitumor role of the Th17 cells and their plasticity.

FACULDADE DE ODONTOLOGIA DE PERNAMBUCO e UPE. Objective: To study the morphological aspects of dental follicles (DFs) and ameloblastomas (AMBs) aiming to correlate them with the immunohistochemical expression of patched (PTCH) protein and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). Materials and Methods: We performed a retrospective study (2002e2014) involving 35 cases of DF and 35 cases of multicystic AMB, using the streptavidin-biotin peroxidase immunohistochemistry technique. For statistical analysis, we used Fisher’s exact test (p < 0.05). Results: Immunohistochemical analysis of PCNA revealed positivity in 94.3% of the multicystic AMBs and 8.6% of the DFs. All cases of AMB exhibited PTCH positivity, compared with only 5.7% of the cases of DF (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Expression of PCNA and PTCH was observed in the DFs, suggesting that alterations in cell signaling pathways of both proteins are related to the onset and progression of odontogenic tumors from the cells that constitute the DF.
PPC-100 - EXFOLIATIVE CYTOLOGY FOR CANDIDA SPP. DETECTION IN PATIENTS WITH ORAL LICHEN PLANUS AND UNDER TOPICAL CORTICOTHERAPY. THAÍS DOS SANTOS FONTES PEREIRA, JEANE DE FÁTIMA CORREIA SILVA ALVES, MARIA
OOOO August 2015 APARECIDA DE RESENDE STOIANOFF, CAROLINA CAVALIÉRI GOMES, RICARDO SANTIAGO GOMEZ. UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE MINAS GERAIS. Objective: To assess the validity of the exfoliative cytopathological examination to detect asymptomatic colonization of Candida spp. in the oral mucosa of patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) under topical corticotherapy. Materials and Methods: Oral swabbing from 11 consecutive patients with erosive OLP in treatment with topical clobetasol propionate were collected. Candida spp. were identified by combining qPCR and microbiological experiments. The presence or absence of hyphae or pseudohyphae was assessed by exfoliative cytology with PAS staining. Results: The cytological examination of oral smears had a sensitivity of 71.4% and specificity of 100%, considering both the qPCR and microbiological assays used as the gold standard. Conclusion: Although exfoliative cytology can be of value to the diagnosis of asymptomatic growth of Candida spp. in the oral cavity, it shows a low sensitivity for patients without signs and symptoms of the disease.
PPC-101 - IMPACT OF ORAL MUCOSITIS ON ORAL HEALTH-RELATED QUALITY OF LIFE OF YOUNG PATIENTS DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER. JAIR CARNEIRO LEÃO, ANDREZA BARKOKEBAS SANTOS DE FARIA, DEBORAH FONSECA, ADRIANA MACHADO ZARZAR, LUIZ ALCINO MONTEIRO GUEIROS, ALESSANDRA ALBUQUERQUE TAVARES CARVALHO. UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DE PERNAMBUCO. Objective: To evaluate the impact of oral mucositis on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of young patients diagnosed with cancer who developed chemotherapy or radiotherapy-induced oral mucositis. Materials and Methods: The study group comprised a sample of 60 patients. We applied the 14-item Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP-14) instrument, which is composed of 7 dimensions: functional limitation, physical pain, psychological discomfort, physical deficiency, psychological deficiency, social incapacity, and deficiency. Results: Physical pain attained 60.8% (292/480), followed by physical limitation 52.7% (253/480) and psychological discomfort 50.8% (244/480). The social incapacity dimension obtained 27.2% (131/480). There was a statistically significant difference as regards gender (p ¼ 0.021) for physical pain in male gender. Conclusion: Oral mucositis is an important effect that diminishes the OHRQoL of patients with cancer.
PPC-102 - CLINICOPATHOLOGICAL AND MANAGEMENT ANALYSIS IN 161 CASES OF ACTINIC CHEILITIS. THAMIRYS DANTAS NÓBREGA, FRANCISCO LEONARDO DA SILVA JÚNIOR, MARIA LUIZA DINIZ SOUSA LOPES, KENIO COSTA LIMA, PATRÍCIA TEIXEIRA DE OLIVEIRA, LÉLIA BATISTA DE SOUZA, ÉRICKA JANINE DANTAS DA SILVEIRA. UNIVERSIDADE FEDERAL DO RIO GRANDE DO NORTE. Objective: To assess the clinical, morphological, and management data in actinic cheilitis (AC) cases and to identify associations with histological grading (HG). Materials and Methods: Demographic, clinical and management data of 161 patients with AC were analyzed. Two trained examiners performed the HG by binary system in biopsied cases.
