deteriorating world economy may result in a supply/demand imbalance with attendant price attrition on certain products. Sanders noted that integrated circuit demand will remain relatively strong even in a domestic recession because of strength in the international market and incremental demand from the automotive and telecommunications industries. Bipolar Logic and Interface has risen from its origin as an alternate source to a virtually productionlimited supplier of such proprietary products as the Am2900 family. The expected leader of the Bipolar Division should be Bipolar Memory, which grew by 154% last year and will be marketing new products this year. Strong growth is seen for the MOS microprocessor and read only memory product lines, with more modest growth expected in nonw)latile memory where domestic and Ioreign competition is strongest. Advanced Micro Computers, AMD's subsidiary, is expected to grow at two or three times the rate of the Bipolar and MOS Divisions on the basis of the products supporting the AmZ8000 16-bit CPU family.

Nat Semi report National Semiconductor Corporation achieved record results during its fourth quarter and fiscal year which ended 31 May 1980. Total revenues for the fourth quarter were $301.0M, a 49.7% increase over the fourth quarter last year. Net earnings totalled $16.4M, a 70.4% increase over the same period last year. Earnings per

share incieased Item 30.48 to $().8U, a 66.7% increase. For the liscat year, revenues totalled $980.4M, up 36.2% over fiscal 1979's total revenues of $719.7M. Net earnings for liscal 1980 increased 52.8% to $52.3M el 32.58 pet- share compared with 1979's record level of $34.3M or $1.12 per share, adiusted for the three-for-two stock split in Mat ch ] 980. Charles E Sporck, President el National Semiconductor Corporation, said: 'our record achievements this year are due primarily to the outstanding perh)rmance of our Semiconductor Divisicm which posted impressive gains across its broad product lines. 1-ieroughout the year, logic and linear integrated circuits continued theii market leadership and profitable growth, and wc became a maior Iactor in the MOS memory market. Our other established component lines also had a good year.'

7 4 S 4 7 8 s in stock Celdis have taken delivery of a quantity of 74S478 8k PROMs which, because of their popularity, can be difficult to obtain. The l k by 8 bits organization of the 74S478 and the 20 ns typical access time make these devices ideally suited for program memory use in microcomputer systems employing a data bus which is a multiple of 8 bits. Memory addressing is achieved with ten address lines in conjection with a fast-acting chip select.

Improved RAM from Motorola Motorola's European MOS facility in East Kilbride, Scotland, is now in volume production with an improved version of the industry standard 16k dynamic RAM, designated MCM4116B. This new part is a redesign of the successful MCM4116A to give better performance and reliability. The design changes have resulted in expanded margins and significant

improvement on long term performance of the device, particularly with respect to alpha induced soft error susceptibility, where it is an order of magnitude better. Other benefits include improvement in speed distribution and input protection. The MCM4116B is available in plastic and ceramic with access times e e l 5 0 300ns.
