Injection pumps with oil system mount separately Two b a r r e l - c a s i n g i n j e c t i o n p u m p s have been c o n s t r u c t e d by Weir P u m p s for Saudi Aramco's Ain D a r GOSP-2 p r o j e c t under a contract worth around £1 m i l l i o n . A f e a t u r e of t h e design is t h a t t h e l u b e / s e a l oil system is m o u n t e d on a separ a t e skid. The a i r cooled h e a t e x c h a n g e r is also m o u n t e d sep a r a t e l y . The p u m p is m a d e from Zeron 100-- t h e first t i m e A r a m c o h a s u s e d Weir's new s u p e r d u p l e x s t a i n l e s s steel -a n d is driven by a GEC motor. The u n i t s were m a n u f a c t u r e d and performance tested at Weir's m a i n p l a n t at Glasgow.
A c c o r d i n g to t h e owner, p r i o r to i n s t a l l i n g t h e machine, six peop l e Were e m p l o y e d on t h e laborious t a s k of h a n d l i n g t h e fish. The u n i q u e i m p e l l e r design prevents d a m a g e to t h e fish w h i c h a r e e v e n t u a l l y s u p p l i e d to m a j o r supermarkets. The 2.2 kW v a r i a b l e s p e e d u n i t is a d j u s t e d to suit varying c o n d i t i o n s such as fish weight a n d o u t p u t to t h e g r a d i n g m a chine. The s p e e d s e t t i n g can be a d j u s t e d w h e t h e r t h e m o t o r is r u n n i n g or stationary.

C r a n e Fluid Systems h a s supp l i e d two of its l a r g e s t p u m p s to the Barclays Bank computer o p e r a t i o n s c o n t r o l c e n t r e in Yv~henshawe, n e a r Manchester, in t h e UI~ The G R a n g e 3000 s e r i e s 150 kW end-suction, belt-driven p u m p s were specified as p a r t of a r e f u r b i s h m e n t of t h e air cond i t i o n i n g system. This was necessary to cope with the p o t e n t i a l i n c r e a s e d h e a t gain from the computers at the centre, w h i c h r u n s continually, all y e a r long. The u n u s u a l l y large size of t h e p u m p s , m a n u f a c t u r e d in t h e s i d e - b y - s i d e format, allows for further i n c r e a s e d h e a t gain, which und o u b t e d l y will h a p p e n as t h e c o m p u t e r systems at t h e control centre b e c o m e m o r e powerful. The p u m p design t e a m a t C r a n e h a d to ensure t h a t t h e b e a r i n g s on t h e p u m p s could t a k e the p r e s s u r e from 150 kW m o t o r s a n d after careful calculation, m o d i f i e d t h e e x i s t i n g p u m p design to i n c l u d e a second set of b e a r i n g s t h a t would easily cope with t h e force from t h e motor.
