European Journal of Radiology 50 (2004) 212–213
Instructions to Authors (revised February 2003) DESCRIPTION The European Journal of Radiology (EJR) is an international journal which acts as a medium for the exchange of information on the use of radiological and allied imaging and interventional techniques. This also includes information on socio-economics and departmental management. By means of a thematic approach and review and regular articles, EJR aims to be a forum for all those who are directly or indirectly involved with actual developments and trends in the various areas of radiology and medical imaging. EDITORIAL POLICY Articles in this journal are generally commissioned along specific thematic issues. The issues will be complemented with non-commissioned original articles of high quality which respond to actual developments in the field. Authors should note that all manuscripts are subject to peer review, and that commissioning does not automatically guarantee publication. TYPES OF CONTRIBUTIONS 1. Commissioned articles selected for a thematic issue. 2. Non-commissioned articles: (a) Original research articles (maximum 20 text pages). (b) Short communications (maximum 6 text pages). (c) Technical notes (maximum 5 text pages). 3. Case reports. All case reports accepted for publication will be published in the companion journal of European Journal of Radiology Extra. This is an on-line only journal and is freely available to all. Articles published in European Journal of Radiology Extra can be cited using the unique Digital Object Identifier.
For further information on the preparation of electronic artwork, please see http://authors.elsevier.com/artwork. Please note: Because of technical complications which can arise by converting colour figures to ‘grey scale’ (for the printed version should you not opt for colour in print) please submit in addition usable black and white prints corresponding to all the colour illustrations. PREPARATION OF MANUSCRIPTS Manuscripts should be written in English. Authors whose native language is not English are strongly advised to have their manuscripts checked by an English-speaking colleague who understands the material. Submit the original and two additional copies of the manuscript and enclose a PC-readable diskette or CD-ROM. Layout of manuscript Most formatting codes are removed or replaced when we process your article so there is no need for you to use excessive layout styling. Please do not use options such as automatic word breaking, justified layout, double columns or automatic paragraph numbering. Do use bold face, italic, subscripts, superscripts, etc., as appropriate. Manuscripts should be typed on one side of the paper, with wide margins and double-spaced throughout. Every page of the manuscript including the title page should be numbered. When you create your manuscript, please make sure it is in the following order: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS Submission to this journal proceeds on-line. Please following the guidelines to prepare your article which are available via the ‘‘Author Gateway’’ page of this journal http://www.elsubmit.com/esubmit/ejr/ you will be guided stepwise through the creation and uploading of the various files. All correspondence, including notification of the Editor’s decision and requests for revisions, will be by e-mail. Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to transfer copyright (for more information on copyright see hhttp://authors.elsevier.com/i). This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information. A letter will be sent to the corresponding author confirming receipt of the manuscript. A form facilitating transfer of copyright will be provided. & File names should be self-explanatory with file extension included, e.g. use filename ‘‘fig1.tif’’ for Figure 1 in TIFF format. & All illustrations to be provided as separate files. & The artwork may be submitted by e-mail attachment or on a 3.5-in. floppy disk, CD-ROM or ZIP disk. If electronic figures are unavailable, figures should be submitted in three sets of glossy black and white photographs. All hard copy illustrations (line drawings and photographs) should be submitted separately, unmounted and not folded. Magnification should be indicated by a line representing the actual scale of reproduction (e.g. 0.1 mm); the use of magnification factors is to be avoided where possible. Line figures should be suitable for direct reproduction. They should be prepared with black ink on white paper, or be black-and-white prints: they should be completely and consistently lettered, the size of the lettering being appropriate to that of the illustration. Each illustration should be clearly marked on the reverse side with the shortened article title, the number of the illustration and its orientation (top); use a soft pencil or preferably a felt-tipped pen for marking photographs. PROOFS Authors will receive galley proofs, which they are requested to correct and return within 24 hours of receipt. Only printer’s errors may be corrected; no change in, or addition to, the edited manuscript will be allowed at this stage. Elsevier will do everything possible to get each article corrected and published as quickly and accurately as possible. Therefore, it is important to ensure that all corrections are sent back to us in one communication. Subsequent corrections will not be possible, so please ensure that the first sending is complete’’. As a registered user you can set up e-mail alerts that automatically update you on the status of your paper as it moves through the production process. You can set up an alert by adding an accepted paper to your list of papers in your profile. If you are a registered user of the Author Gateway you can track the status of your paper from your homepage as each step in the production process is automatically updated.
