Association for International Practical Trainmg (10480 Little Patuxent Parkway, Suite 320, Columbia, MD 21044-3502) is a non-profit educational exchange organization that enters into cooperative agreements with overseas agencies to provide practical training and work experience for students and professionals over a variety of fields. AIPT is also the U.S. affiliate of the International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience which provides on-the-job practical training in 49 countries for students of science and technology. Creative Associates (3201 New Mexico Avenue, N.W., Suite 270, Washington, D.C. 20009) is currently undertaking a survey of training institutions and programs which involve individuals from Latin America and the Caribbean in American social and cultural life, especially in the areas of family and community life, local government and politics, local business, and recreation activities. The information will be compiled in a directory of training opportunities to be used by the Agency for International Development for placing trainees from these countries in appropriate long-term, short-term and English Language training programs in the United States. Global Impacts (Century Center, Suite 3-447, 1750 Kalakaua Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96826) is a consultancy providing services to professionals and institutions in international and intercultural education, training, and development. Kenneth Cushner and Sheldon Varney are the co-directors. Felipe Korzenny (San Francisco State University, 1600 Holloway Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94132) and Stella Ting-Toomey (Rutgers University) have been selected as the editors of the next four volumes of the International and Intercultural Communication Annual sponsored by the Speech Communication Association and published by SAGE. Program at the East-West Center. The program is designed to meet special development needs of the Pacific Islands region through cooperative research, education, and training. Judith N. Martin (Office of International Education and Department of Speech Communication, University of Minnesota, 717 E. River Road, Minneapolis, MN 55455) has been promoted to Associate Professor with tenure. During the academic year 1986-87 she will be on sabbatical leave from the University and continuing her research in the area of crosscultural training and sojourner adjustment. JosefA. Mestenhauser (Office of International Education, University of Minnesota) has been elected as President Elect of the National Association for Foreign Student Affairs (NAFSA) for the term 1986-87. Josef A. Mestenhauser and R. Michael Paige (Office of International Education, University of Minnesota) recently served as cross-cultural training and orientation consultants for the Government of Indonesia's newly formed Overseas Training Office, which is being supported by USAID and MUCIA (Midwestern University Consortium for International Activities). Mestenhauser and Paige organized and helped host a professional development program in the U.S. and Canada for eight Indonesians associated with the project. Three of our Indonesian colleagues participated in the two SIETAR cross-cultural training institutes in July. R. Mtchael Paige (Office of International Education, University of Minnesota) is the editor of a new volume on cross-cultural orientation, CrossCultural Orientation: New Conceptualizations and Applications published by University Press of America. Many of the sixteen contributors are SIETAR members. Intercultural Communication Monitor is an on-going feature of IJIR. It includes notes and news on the following topics:

1. Scholarly papers, articles, research reports, and books written by professionals in the field of intercultural communication, education, training, and research. 2. Training workshops, seminars, symposia, and professional meetings dealing with topics related to intercultural communication. 3. Training aids, simulation devices, and other instructional materials developed and/or pretested for field use. 4. Research and/or training grants awarded in the area of intercultural relations. 5. Education courses and/or programs offered on the subject.
