Mas &to (Wright Institute, 2728 Durant Avenue, Berkeley, CA) presented a paper titled “The Shame Factor: Counseling Asian Americans” at the Fourth Annual Third World Counselor’s Conference held at the University of California, San Diego. ~oedja~rno~~, former Ambassador from Indonesia to the United States and currently adviser to the chairman of Indonesia’s National Development Planning Agency for Social and Cultural Affairs, has been chosen to succeed James M. Hester as Rector of the United Nations University. The United Nations University (UNU) is a nonresidential, graduate level research institution governed by a 24-member Council appointed jointly by the SecretaryGeneral of the United Nations and the Director-General of UNESCO (United Nations Economic and Social Council). The university does not have a campus or students in a traditional sense. Instead it maintains administrative offices in Tokyo which plan and coordinate the UNU’s program activities. The actual work is carried out at associated institutions in 60 countries throu~out the world, by networks of scholars and scientists, and by training. Systran offers technical and vocational training across cultures, provides a computerized translation service, and assists Americans assigned to overseas positions in becoming oriented to foreign cultures. Hurry C. Triundis (Professor of Psychology, University of Illinois, Champaign, IL 68120) served as a host to the Conference on lntergroup Relations Research sponsored by the Office of Naval Research. The conference discussed current research in psychology, anthropology and Hispanic studies and the ways in which this research can be applied to solving the problems experienced by Hispanics in Anglo-American contexts.
