International Semiconductor Science and Technology Conference, ISSTC-2014

The International Semiconductor Science and Technology Conference – ISSTC-2014 was held at Istanbul, Turkey, on January 13–15, 2014. Almost 250 researchers from 20 different countries around the world participated. In total 162 papers were presented of which 11 were invited presentations, 51 were contributed oral presentations and 101 were poster presentations. The program of the conference covered a broad range of topics: (i) Semiconductor Materials and Device Characterization; (ii) Thin Films: Surface and Interface; (iii) Nanofabrication, Nanotubes, and Nanowires; (iv) Photonic Devices and Sensors; (v) Organic Semiconductors and Devices; (vi) Magnetic Semiconductors; (vii) Biological Applications of Semiconductors and (viii) Computational Methods Applied to Semiconductor Materials. Most presentations addressed the fabrication, electrical and optical characterization of semiconductor materials with innovative synthetic approaches. There were numerous studies on currently topical subjects such as: photovoltaic materials, Schottky barrier diodes and hybrid organic/inorganic semiconductor devices. The 23 scientific contributions published in the present special issue give an overview of the broad range of semiconductor science and technology topics covered by the ISSTC. This conference reached its aim of bringing together a world-wide community exploring these concepts, embracing

physicists, material scientists, chemists and engineers from both academic and industrial research groups. The unique atmosphere of the ISSTC was recognized and very much appreciated by all the participants. It was our honor to host this conference in Turkey at Istanbul Medeniyet University. We are grateful to all the attendees who gave oral and poster presentations, all authors who contributed papers to the present issue, and all reviewers who reviewed manuscripts. The significant contributions of Profs. Horvath, Van Meirhaeghe, Osvald and Sellai are acknowledged for the successful completion of this special issue as is the input of the journal's editorial leadership.
