Synchronous samples are subsequently computed by interpolation, and used by a conventional sequence detector such as a Viterbi detector for partial response. This architecture allows design of a fully digital PLL, including a digital ZPR function. In addition, the latencies of the ADC and FIR equalization filter do not contribute to loop delay. A cost effective, well performing implementation is described. ŽAuthor abstract . 6 Refs. In our readout system, each channel consists of a dedicated full-custom ASIC electromechanical sigma-delta modulator and a digital sincŽf. decimation filter. The output data interface is intended for readout by microcontrollers and digital signal processors ŽDSPs.. Software-programmable reference voltages facilitate self-test and software-controlled range and offset adjustment.

Temperature compensation can be performed by reading the output of a temperature-sensing circuit on the sensor head. The measured noise level is 5 mu g Hzminus at a measuring range of plus or minus 1.5 g. Simulations with a dedicated high-level simulator have shown that the sensitivity can be increased by at least one order of magnitude by optimizing the sigma-delta modulators. As an example for application, an acceleration data logger will be described. Finally, we present the design of an improved accelerometer chipset which consists of a single sensor head chip and an enhanced decimation filter interface. ŽAuthor abstract . 3 Refs. The sensing system utilizes two sense capacitors of different size and two sigma-delta Ž Sigma Delta . analog-todigital converters ŽADCs.. A small, linear sensor is used to calibrate the linearity of a larger, higher-resolution sensor. The integrated circuit containing the ADCs is built in a 0.6 mu m, double-poly CMOS technology and uses 150 mW from a 5 V supply. ŽAuthor abstract . 2 Refs.
