1. News from National Associations 1.1. Polish Society for Crystal Growth (PSCG) The PSCG held its 3rd Conference and General Meeting in Warsaw during 11—13 May 1993, followed by a round table discussion on the Czochralski method for crystal growth. Some 100 scientists from universities and research institutes participated together with five invited speakers from other countries. The programme contained 15 invited lectures, five short oral presentations and 30 posters. The conference commenced with the Jan Czochralski lecture “Monocrystals and polycrystals” delivered by Professor R. Pampuch. The General Assembly of the PSCG was held during the conference when the following principal officers were elected for the period 1993— 1995: President: S.A. Hodorowicz Fac. of Chemistry Jagiellonian Univ. 3 Ingarden Street 30-060 Cracow, Poland Secretary: K. Sangwal Dept. of Physics Technical Univ. of Lublin 38 Nadbystrzycka Street 20-618 Lublin, Poland The PSCG is organizing an International Summer School on the Growth and Characterization of Crystals which will be held during 4—14 September 1994 in Cracow. Further details can be obtained from Professor K. Sangwal, who is to chair the event. From 1995, the PSCG is to elect its officers on a three-year cycle; this will be coincident with the IOCG election cycle and provide continuity through each trienniurn. The membership of PSCG has increased to 57. 0022-0248/93/$06.OO

Korean Association of Crystal Growth (KACG) The KACG has elected new officers for the period 1993—1994, as follows: President: B.S. Jeon Korean Steel & Chemical Co. Ltd. Seoul, South Korea Secretary: K.S. Han Korea Inst. of Science and Technology Seoul, South Korea Vice President: K.K. Orr Dept. of Inorganic Materials Hanyan University Seoul, South Korea 1.4. Israeli Association for Crystal Growth (IsACG) The IsACG held its annual meeting at the Weizman Institute of Science in Rehovot on 12 November 1992. It was attended by some 80 delegates; seven invited talks and 20 posters were presented. The invited talks were as follows: Solid sources in MOCVD (R.S. Computer modelling in oxide Czochralski growth (F. Weinberg), Bulk KTP growth and characterization (N. Angert), An assessment of MCT (A. Sher), Energy conversion technologies using CVD-tungsten and molybdenum (K.A. Gesheva), and Surface melting of crystals (S.G. Lipson). The posters covered the range from thin film and device processing (by MOCVD or conventional CVD) to bulk growth of semiconductor, oxide and superconducting crystals. A student prize was awarded to N. Nawi for his outstanding work on chemical infiltration of SiC,

The host organization for these events, the Dutch Association for Crystal Growth (KKN) have advised that ICCG-11 will be held in The Hague (18—23 June 1995), and that ISSCG-9 will be held in Arnhem (11—16 June 1995). The first circulars for these events will be distributed during 1994.

tion to present the work, which is the subject of the award, at the relevant ICCG. The awards were first made at ICCG-9 to A.A. Chernov (Frank Prize) and J. Nishizawa (Laudise Prize). At ICCG-10 the awards were made to R.F. Sekerka (Frank Prize) and V.V. Osiko and J.F. Wenckus (joint Laudise Prize). The next awards will be made during ICCG-11 in The Hague, Netherlands, 18—23 June 1995. Nominations for these awards, together with supporting documentation (six copies) shOuld be sent before 15 September 1994 to the IOCG Awards Chairman, Professor B. Cockayne (DRA, St. Andrews Road, Malvern, Worcs. WR14 3PS, UK. Tel: +44 684 894810; Fax: +44 684 894311), for consideration by the IOCG Awards Committee. The other members of the Awards Committee will be Professor P. Bennema (Netherlands), Professor A.A. Chernov (Russia), Professor T. Nishinaga (Japan) and Professor R.F. Sekerka (USA). The nominations should contain details of the candidate’s title, position, age, postal address, curriculum vitae, list of publications, and a citation which describes his/her work and its relevance to the field of crystal growth. It should be made clear for which prize the submission is being made. Nominations can be made by National Associations for Crystal Growth or by mdividuals, but not by the candidates themselves. The person or persons making the nominations should append their own name, title, address and position, as well as their signature.

3. Triennial IOCG Awards (1995)

4. IOCG business affairs

The International Organization for Crystal Growth sponsors two triennial prizes. These are the IOCG Frank Prize, presented for significant contributions in fundamental aspects of crystal growth, and the IOCG Laudise prize, presented for significant contributions in technological aspects of crystal growth. Both awards are made for outstanding contributions to the field of crystal growth through technical achievements, publications and presentations and through their impact worldwide on science and technology. The awards consist of a commemorative item plus an invita-

A full report on the IOCG Executive Committee, Council and General Assembly meetings, held during ICCG-10 in San Diego, CA, USA, during 16—21 August 1992, has been published in J. Crystal Growth 128 (1993) 1293—1296. Since that time the Italian Association for Crystal Growth (IACG) have confirmed that they will organize ISSCG-10 in 1998. Additionally, in order to improve communication between the IOCG Executive and the constituent Associations, the President has introduced an annual Newsletter. The first of these has been written and distributed to
