F O C US launch of PuraFast HS protease, at the 56th Annual Congress of SEPAWA (Association of Soap, Perfume, and Detergent Experts). PuraFast is a performance ingredient for laundry detergents to improve cleaning performance in shorter cycle and lower temperature washes. This results in greater convenience for consumers. Studies on European wash cycles validate that using PuraFast also reduces energy and water use. “Our slogan is ‘clean clothes, clear conscience’,” explains Floris Luger, Vice President of Genencor’s Fabric & Household Care business. “By reducing the typical wash cycle from more than an hour to as little as half an hour, users can save up to 20% water. PuraFast provides detergent manufacturers with a highly effective ingredient to help consumers achieve optimal results, while also conserving natural resources.” PuraFast, which also reduces energy and water consumption, is the latest product introduced to Genencor’s comprehensive portfolio of enzyme solutions for the fabric and household care industry. Polyquart Ecoclean: “green” convenience for hard surface cleaners Time-saving and easy-to-use, convenience has been consumers’ primary demand of hard surface cleaners for several years. Today, consumers want environmentally sound cleaning products made from renewable raw materials without compromising performance or convenience. One result of this development is that products that carry eco-labels or are formulated and positioned as “green” cleaner products are much sought-after in the market. Speciality chemicals supplier Cognis has recently launched Polyquart Ecoclean, an innovative and unique additive, which enables manufacturers of hard surface cleaners to develop products that serve all of these demands at the same time. Polyquart Ecoclean is an innovative polymer based on a renewable raw material, namely

starch. It closes the gap for formulating environmentally sound hard surface cleaners with up-to date convenience claims like excellent wetting with spotless drying and being easy to clean again. It consists of more than 70% of natural C-atoms, which according to Cognis’ Green Chemical Solutions classification system makes it an “Ecohybrid”. It has an excellent eco-toxicological profile in being aerobically and anaerobically biodegradable, and is eligible for various eco-labels, including the European “Ecoflower” and the Nordic Swan. Polyquart Ecoclean modifies hard surfaces like ceramic tiles, glass and stainless steel to become more hydrophilic. It is especially effective on oily soils. The hydrophilization leads to a water sheeting effect and means that hard surfaces can simply be rinsed off after cleaning, for a spotless finish without separate drying. This rinse-off effect lasts for up to 10 rinse cycles. These performance and convenience benefits make Polyquart Ecoclean an ideal additive for floor, window, kitchen and bathroom cleaners, hard surface cleaning wipes, as well as multi-purpose cleaners, for household, as well as industrial and institutional cleaning applications. Making life easier for consumers, manufacturers and formulators: Polyquart Ecoclean makes life easier not just for consumers, but also for formulators, as it is stable across a wide pH range (from 3 to 10) and is compatible with anionic, cationic and nonionic surfactants. As a result, it gives formulators great flexibility when designing cleaner formulations with added convenience benefits for a multitude of applications. However, what really sets Polyquart Ecoclean apart is the way it also helps manufacturers serve the global sustainability trend. Wash cold, green and clean with Novozymes’ Lipoclean Novozymes has introduced Lipoclean as an alternative to surfactants in detergents. The use of a multienzyme solution that contains Lipoclean will
enable detergent makers to cut down an average of 25% of the surfactants used without affecting performance while improving the sustainability of their products. Tests conducted by Novozymes have shown that the solution lessens soil redeposition and maintains or even improves wash performance when 20-40% less surfactant is used.
