HI releases a new version of ANSI/HI standards The Hydraulic Institute (HI) has released its newest version of ANSI/HI Pump Standards on CDROM. ANSI/HI Pump Standards on CD-ROM, Version 2.0, contains the full text of all ANSI/HI Standards, and features several enhanced search and navigation features. Four landmark ANSI/HI Standards are new for Version 2.0: • Effects of Liquid Viscosity on Rotodynamic Pump Performance Standard – replaces 40+ year old HI viscosity correction nomographs; was developed to predict the performance change of rotodynamic pumps operated on viscous liquids relative to their performance on water. (ANSI/HI 9.6.7)
• Rotodynamic (Centrifugal) Slurry Pump Standard (including Slurry Pump Test) – includes slurry pump types, types of slurries, slurry limitations, slurry solids’ effect on pumps, pump froth, pump wear and applications. (ANSI/HI 12.1-12.6) • Air-Operated Pump Standard – includes positive displacement reciprocating pumps used for general fluid transfer, which are driven by means of a compressed gas. (ANSI/HI 10.1-10.5) • Air-Operated Pump Test Standard – provides uniform procedures for mechanical and other pump performance testing and for recording the test results of air-operated diaphragm and bellows pumps. (ANSI/HI 10.6).
ITT and Pentair form joint venture for motors Pentair, Inc has entered into a joint venture agreement with ITT Industries, Inc to create Faradyne Motors LLC, a separate and stand-alone company. Faradyne will design, develop and manufacture submersible pump motors for these two water technology leaders. Manufacturing will begin in 2006. Charles Brown, Pentair president and COO for the pump and pool markets, said that the joint venture is consistent with Pentair’s strategic sourcing disciplines. “Establishing FARADYNE is a win-win proposition for Pentair and its customers,” he said. “This will enhance the quality and dependability of our already best-in-class pump
products while contributing to long-term cost and supply stability for our customers. Faradyne is another example of Pentair’s continued commitment to deliver customers safe, clean water.” Faradyne Motors is managed by a six-member governance board. It will be headquartered in Newark, New York, USA. The terms of the joint venture agreement extend for five years. Brown added, “Fundamental changes by our previous motor supplier last fall motivated Pentair to consider sourcing options. We believe Faradyne Motors will bring to market the most reliable and competitive submersible pump motor.”
Exeeco wins British Energy framework agreement Exeeco (a Rotork Group Company) has been awarded an exclusive framework agreement for the supply of Rotork valve actuation products and for the service and repair of electric, hydraulic and pneumatic valve actuators at all nine British Energy UK power station sites. British Energy is reportedly the UK’s largest electricity producer, generating 20% of the country’s electricity from one coal-fired and eight nuclear power stations. “This contract was awarded to Exeeco to benefit the technological implementation of our long term plans,” said
WORLD PUMPS February 2006
John Vincent, British Energy specialist procurement buyer. “It is our intention to enhance control and automation at many of our plants, including Sizewell, which has a predicted life until 2030. All of our stations undergo regular, stringent outage overhauls as well as plant upgrades to maintain modern and reliable processes and controls. Reliable actuation of valves is critical to the success of our plants. Exeeco has demonstrated unrivalled actuation and automation expertise which, combined with the quality and reliability of Rotork products, will serve British Energy well in our mission.”
