J
acobs Engineering Group Inc is to provide professional services to EDF’s NNB Generation Co Ltd (NNB GenCo), the prospective licensee for future nuclear plants to be owned and operated within the UK by EDF Energy. The two-year agreement covers the provision of technical support to the Design Authority department that owns and protects the integrity of the design and safety case of the UK EPR, a pressurised water reactor, on behalf of NNB GenCo.
FW awarded fluidised-bed steam generator contract in Korea

yundai Engineering and Construction has selected Foster Wheeler for the design and supply of four 550 MWe supercritical circulating fluidized-bed (CFB) steam generators for the Samcheok Green Power Project for Korea Southern Power Co Ltd (KOSPO), the owner and developer of the project. Foster Wheeler will design and supply four 550 MWe advanced vertical-tube, once-through supercritical CFB steam generators and provide site advisory services for the project. The CFB steam generators will be designed to burn coal mixed with biomass while meeting applicable environmental regulatory requirements. Commercial operation of the new steam generators is scheduled to begin in June 2015. 4

BASF picks Fluor as engineering partner in Asia & Europe

ermany’s BASF has selected Fluor Corp as an engineering partner for chemicals and petrochemicals projects across Asia and Europe. BASF has awarded Fluor umbrella services agreements in these regions for undisclosed contract values. The partnering agreements will cover capital investment projects with separate service orders throughout Asia and Europe. Services provided on projects covered by the agreement will include front-end engineering and design (FEED), project management services and/or detailed engineering, procurement and construction management services. Fluor’s Haarlem office in the Netherlands will lead efforts for the European partnership agreement. Other Fluor operations centres will also be used as necessary.
Technip wins services contract for Chinese chemical plant
S
olvay has awarded Technip an engineering services contract to study the construction of a greenfield chemical plant in Taixing, Jiangsu Province, China. The plant will be based on Solvay’s patented Epicerol technology and will produce 100 kilo-tons per year of epichlorohydrin from glycerine. Technip’s operating centre in Shanghai, China will execute the contract, which is scheduled to be completed in 2013.
BASF extends Styrodur C production plant

ASF is expanding the production plant for the insulation material Styrodur C at its Ludwigshafen site in Germany. The investment will increase the production capacity of the extruded polystyrene
rigid foam panels (XPS) from the current 1.3 million m³ by an additional 220 000 m³. In the extended plant the new XPS types Styrodur Neo and Styrodur HT can be manufactured along with standard products. Operation will start at the end of the year. The plant extension is incorporated into the existing production structure, but will have a more elaborate configuration and will operate using an optimized method.

Fluor to perform mining work for Quadra FNX in Chile
F
luor Corp has won a US$1 billion contract from Minera Quadra Chile Limitada, a subsidiary of Quadra FNX Mining Ltd, for work at the company’s Sierra Gorda project in Chile. Sierra Gorda is an open pit, green field conventional copper/molybdenum project located in Chile’s Atacama Desert. Fluor’s scope of work on the project will include providing engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) services for the mine’s processing plant. When complete, the mine will be capable of processing approximately 110 000 tons per day of ore, expanding to 190 000 tons per day during year four of operations. First production from Sierra Gorda is scheduled for 2014.

Fluor advises on Lithuanian gas terminal

luor Corp is to provide engineering and business support services for a new floating liquefied natural gas (LNG) import terminal in Klaipeda, Lithuania. Under the contract, Fluor will provide Klaipedos Nafta AB, Lithuania’s stateowned oil company, with engineering, technical, risk management, safety and environmental advisory services. As the lead advisor, Fluor will prepare the technical development plan and assist in selecting technologies, as well as developing a business plan for the terminal.
