More than 5,000 students attended a three-day health career conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with the Western Pennsylvania Society of H osp ital Pharmacists representing the careers available in all fields of pharmacy-com-

munity practice, hospital pharmacy and education, wholesale and manufacturing areas. A two-day pharmacy counseling program for high school and college students with an interest in pharmacy as a career has been organized by the University of Wisconsin . The program includes a visit to pharmacy classes and laboratories while in session and participation in some of the laboratory experiments. •

judging Lunsford Richardson awards Richardson pharmacy awards will again be presented Lunsford this year to pharmacy student s in recognition of their exploration of current problems in pharmacy. M ore than $12,000 will be distributed to students and APHA student chapters to encourage and stimulate interest in pharmaceutical sciences. Judging is divided into three areas-graduate research, undergraduate research and the undergradua t e essay contest-and judges have been selected by the award committee. Edward G. F eldmann, scientific division director for APHA; Troy C . Daniels, dean of the University of California school of pharmacy, and Lloyd M. Parks, dean of Ohio State University college of pharmacy, will judge the graduate research entries. Undergraduate research will be judged by Paul J. Jannke, professor of chemistry at the University of Connecticut school of

. Everyday problems of human relations in pharmacies are dealt with in a new film entitled Day of Judgment sponsored by Lilly and starring Walter Pidgeon. Movie, which will have its premier showing a t the APHA Dallas meeting, recognizes that the relationship between the pharmacist and the patient is the chief avenue through which professional stature can be maintained.

• Rudolf O. Hauck, APHA member and executive vice president and member of the board of directors of Knoll Pharmaceutical Company passed away Sunday, March 27. Hauck graduated from Columbia University college of pharmacy with his PhG in 1925 and received his PhC in 1926, his BSc in 1927, his masters in 1931 , all from Columbia and his doctorate

The three judges named for the undergradua t e essay contest are Martin Ba rr, dean of Wayne State University college of pharmacy ; Benjamin F. Cooper, dean of Northeast Louisiana State College school of pharmacy, and Walter L . Dickison, dean of Southwestern (Okla.) State College school of pharmacy. These awards, inaugurated in 1955, are sponsored by Richardson-M errell. Students at pha rmacy schools in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada are eligible for the prizes which are awarded on a regional basis. This year for the first time, a national winner of merit in each of the three catagories will be selected for a special award . •

from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute in 1950. He was an instructor at Columbia from 1927 to 1934 and then he joined Knoll. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, New York chapter of APHA, Kappa Psi and a past president of the alumni association of Columbia University. He was active in the Industrial Management Club of Orange, New Jersey and the Concordia Historical Society of St. Louis, Missouri.
