Leprosy Types Distinguished Using Monoclonal Antibodies Cell analysis of the skin lesions associated with the lepromatous form of leprosy showed the presence of predominantly suppressor T cells. By contrast, most of the T-lymphocytes in the skin lesions of tuberculoid leprosy patients were identified as helper cells. These data were obtained using T cell-surface marker-specific monoclonal antibodies by a research team of Rockefeller University in New York and the University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, headed by Zanvil A. Cohn of Rockefeller University (New Engl. J. Med., 1982, 307, 1593).
