Dear colleagues, It is an honor and a pleasure for me to invite you to participate in the IO #' Imernational Congress on Oral Cancer that will be held on the island of Crete, Greece, at the Creta Maris Conference Centre from 19 to 24 April 2005. The Congress, after being held on all five continents during the last 20 years, reaches the land of Aesculapius and Hippocrates for its rebirth, just as the Olympic Games have after 2500 years. The 10 th ICOOC will be held in the Olympic city of Heraklion in Crete, homeland of the Minoic civilization. The civilization that preceded that of the Dorians, the Korinthians and the Athenians and succeeded that of the Cycladians. Wanting to emphasize the humane nature of the universal problem of oral cancer, we have decided to have as main theme of the Congress the oral cancer patient, trying to elevate and point out the anthropocentric approach to a multidisciplinary problem. It is our scope to call upon all of you to come to Crete and together make a halt of our busy every day schedule and think, evaluate and communicate what we have achieved so far, what are we seeking and how we will reach our goals. Oral cancer is the extreme paradigm of teal-n work and collaboration of rnany diverse and different medical and biological disciplines. Perhaps no other medical problem in the human asthenia has had so many different specialties dealing with its resolution. The intention of this Congress is threefold: educational, scientific and recreational. Educational for the young and the older, scientific for the inventing and inquiring minded and recreational, for all of us. We are intending to prepare and deliver a memorable scientific meeting for the years to come. One that will broaden our scientific horizons and strenghthen our cultural ties through the social programme. We look forward to seeing you in Greece. With warmest regards,
Alexander D. Rapidis MD, DDS, PhD Congress President
