Announcement

Marine Structures; Design, Construction and Safety. First issue Spring 1988. Elsevier Applied Science, Barking, Essex, UK. Vol. 1--3 issues. Price: £55.00 UK, £60.00 outside UK. The editors for this new international journal are Professor D. Faulkner of the University of Glasgow, Professor A. Mansour of the University of California and Professor Y. Ueda of Osaka University. The declared aim of the journal is to provide a medium for discussion of the latest developments in research, design, fabrication and in-service experience relating to marine structures, of all materials, including ships, fixed and mobile offshore platforms, submarine and semi-submersibles, pipelines, subsea platforms for shallow and deep ocean operations and coastal structures such as piers. The scope will include the ocean environment and loading, foundations and structural interaction, static and dynamic structure response, material behaviour, reliability and optimisation techniques, inspection monitoring and maintenance, and fabrication and commissioning. There would seem to be no equivalent journal providing scientific papers specifically in this area and it should form a useful addition to the market. No comments can yet be made about content or standard because the first issue is not yet available, but a sample issue can be obtained through the publishers in Spring 1988.
