OFFICIAL NOTICES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS
President's Reception Due to an ever-increasing registration at the Annual Meeting, an open President's Reception has become virtually unmanageable. Total registration at the Annual Meeting in Chicago exceeded 14,500 individuals, including members, spouses, exhibitors and guests. With no invitation-RSVP mechanism to use as a guide, it is not possible to plan an orderly and suitable reception in honor of the president, officers and directors of the Academy. Additionally the shortened format of the Academy this year, and perhaps in future years as well, makes it appropriate to free up Monday evening, traditionally blocked for the President's Reception, for other important Academy functions such as the Annual Business Meeting, scientific sessions and alumni meeting gatherings. Therefore, the Board of Directors has decided not to hold the traditional open President's Reception this year in Atlanta. Should any of the membership feel strongly against the decision to discontinue this function, you are encouraged to present your arguments for its renewal at the Annual Business Meeting.
