Notification Policy At least ninety (90) days' prior notice of the time and place of each annual business meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, including the names of all nominees of the Board of Trustees in accordance with section 5.01, shall be given to all Fellows and Members by publication in an official publication of the Academy or by another method designated by the Board of Trustees. Except as otherwise provided in these Bylaws, any item of business may be transacted at an annual business meeting if the item of business is referred to in the notice of the Annual Meeting. An item of business not referred to in the notice of the Annual Business Meeting shall not be considered or acted upon at the meeting unless (a) it may be considered in accordance with Section 9.01 or (b) in the case of items of business not described in Section 9.01, it is proposed as an item of new business by a Voting Fellow or Member upon at least thirty (30) days' prior notice to the Executive Vice President, or is proposed as an item of new business by the Board of Trustees. At least thirty (30) days' prior notice shall be given of the time, place, and purpose of any special meeting of the Fellows and Members of the Academy. No business may be transacted at a special business meeting of the Voting Fellows and Members of the Academy other than that specified in the notice of the meeting.

The fact that the Academy has entered into arrangements for exhibit space at the Annual Meeting does not mean or imply that the Academy endorses or otherwise recommends or vouches for the products or services of any exhibitor. Solicitation by individuals not participating as technical exhibitors is Dot permitted. Attendees may report these individuals or other questionable practices to the Academy's Exhibit Manager's Office, located in Room 159-West. Individuals who violate this policy may be evicted &om the premises.

Display or Distribution Policy

Academy Meetings

The Academy has retained exclusive use of the convention facility to enable registered members and guests to participate in Academy-sponsored educational and informational activities. Display or distribution of nonsponsored information or advertising in or on the property of the convention facility, except in exhibit booths and on the notice board, is prohibited. Violation of this policy will result in confiscation and disposal of the material. Individuals who violate this policy may be evicted &om the premises.

Technical Exhibits Policy

Board of Trustees Meeting

Technical exhibitors assume full responsibility for operating all lasers or other hazardous optical sources in their exhibits, in compliance with applicable health and safety codes, so that no safety hazard is presented to meeting exhibitors or attendees. Exhibitors are required to comply with the uSafety Guidelines for Lasers and Other Hazardous Optical Sources," prepared by the Academy's Laser Safety and Light Hazards Committee, and exhibits are inspected for compliance upon installation.

Sunday, October 29, 1995, 1:00pm-4:30pm Westin Peachtree Plaza, Plaza Ballroom-South This three-hour program will focus on how certain behaviors and practices can expose an ophthalmologist to liability and increase the likelihood of an unfavorable outcome, should a claim or lawsuit arise. Through the forum of a hypothetical lawsuit brought by a glaucoma patient who is a member of a managed care plan, attendees will analyze those factors that contribute to the success or failure of a malpractice lawsuit that involves managed care issues. The seminar also will examine the legal and ethical questions an ophthalmologist faces when treating managed care patients. CME Credit The American Academy of Ophthalmology is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to sponsor continuing education for physicians. The Academy designates CME Annual Meeting activities for up to 42 credit hours in Category 1 of the Physician's Recognition Award of the American Medical Association.

AD portions of the Annual Meeting scientific, instruction course and video programs are identified for credit. One credit is awarded for each hour of participation, as follows:

Reporting Service. Attendees must retain the course attendance verification portion of the course evaluation form to report attendance at individual courses. The Academy is not able to keep any records of attendance at individual courses.

Nonmember CMf Credit

Academy Member CMf Reporting Service

Nonmembers should not report their credits to the Academy. They should verify with their own reporting agencies that Academy credits are applicable, and if so, the Annual Meeting proof-of-attendance letter or onsite registration form can be used to document meeting attendance. The individual course attendance verification forms can serve as proof of course attendance when reporting credits to local agencies. The Academy is not able to keep any records of attendance at individual courses. Nonmembers are responsible for keeping track of the number of hours spent in CME activities.

Academy members will receive a CME Reporting Form at registration. Upon receipt of a completed CME Reporting Form, the Academy will record the total number only of Category 1 CME credits earned at the Annual Meeting for Academy Members only. CME Reporting Forms are also available to members in the Exhibit Hall at the Academy Resource Center's Education Exhibit and at Meeting Information. Members are responsible for keeping track of the number of hours spent in CME activities. The completed form must be returned to the Academy by any member wishing to participate in the Academy's CME

m Participa Submission of Scientific Papers to Ophthalmology Journal Office Room 204-Ea5t All scientific papers at the Annual Meeting are copyrighted for possible publication in the Academy journal, Ophthalmology. It is mandatory that the original plus two copies of the manuscript, three sets of each illustration, and a copyright transfer form and checklist be submitted. All materials must be received at the journal office by September 29. Authors should mail their materials to:

Presenters of 9:00 am papers should submit their material by 4:00 pm the preceding day. Slides may be viewed and edited in this room. In addition,videotapes may be cued to the section to be shown.

Newsroom Room 205-Ea5t The newsroom provides a workplace for media representatives. When media representatives request interviews with specific ophthalmologists,the newsroom staff contacts the physicians and arranges for interviews.

Messages for presenters being sought for interviews will be left at the Message Center. Program participants are urged to check daily for messages, and to contact the newsroom immediately if a message is received. Only presenters contacted for an interview should come to the newsroom. The news media are asked not to solicit interviews directly. Questions about interviews or the operation of the newsroom should be directed to Ben Ho, MD, Associate Secretary for Media Information; Andrea Devaux, Media Information Coordinator; or the Academy media staff.

Meeting Information Further information regarding CME credit reporting and other Academy-sponsored programs offering CME credit will be available at the Academy Resource Center's Education Exhibit, located in Hall G. Proof of Attendance

Attendees who have preregistered may obtain proofof-attendance letters onsite, beginning Monday, October 30. A copy of the onsite registration form serves as proof of meeting attendance for nonmembers registering onsite. Instruction course attendees will also receive a course attendance verification form at the end of each course for reporting purposes. Nonmember attendees must retain aU proof-of-attendance materials to report credit; the Academy does not keep any records of attendance at individual courses. Target Audience

We are proud to present the fifth annual exhibit of original art from our members. The Gallery will be located in Hall D during registration hours, Sunday through Thursday. Hands on Atlanta, Sunday, October 29

Since its inception in 1989, Hands on Atlanta, a nonprofit volunteer service organization promoting volunteerism and direct community involvement, has grown from a few dozen to a volunteers corps of 5,000. Volunteers from across the country have participated in Hands on Atlanta. And this year, Annual Meeting attendees and social program participants will be given the opportunity to participate as volunteers for park beautification with Hands on Atlanta, on Sunday, October 29 from 9:00 am to 12 noon: planting flowers, shrubs, and trees in an inner city park. The cost is $20 per person and all proceeds are donated to the project. See the Spouse and Guest Program brochure for more details.

Noontime Concert

Wednesday, November 1 The Noontime Concert will be presented in the auditorium of the Georgia World Congress Center from 12:15 pm to 1:45 pm. The program will include new Academy member soloists this year, as well as those who have previously contributed their skills. The program will be posted in the Georgia World Congress Center, as well as in the onsite issue of Argus. President's Reception

Monday, October 30 The President's Reception will be held on Monday from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm in the Marquis Ballroom of the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. All members and Fellows of the Academy, and their spouses, are invited to attend. Admittance is by badge. Run for Vision <95

Sunday, October 29 Run for Vision '95, a 5K and 10K race and one-mile walk, will take place on Sunday morning from 6:00 am to 8:00 am. At the conclusion, the David Worthen Memorial Fitness Awards will be presented. This event is sponsored by CHIRON VISION and the Eye Bank Association of America. All proceeds go to the EBAA. Meeting Services Academy Child Care Center

The Academy has again arranged for ACCENT on Arrangements, Inc., an accredited national child care provider, to operate an AAO Child Care Center at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, for the exclusive use of Academy registrants and their families. The AAO Child Care Center, for children aged three months to 12 years, will be staffed with insured, professional care givers who will provide a safe, nurturing environment that focuses on developmentally appropriate programs. Public parking is available at the Georgia World Congress Center for $6 per day. The entrance is off International Boulevard. Shuttle Buses

Daytime shuttle bus transportation will be provided between most of the official Academy hotels and the Georgia World Congress Center from Sunday, October 29 to Thursday, November 2.
