as a past director of a dietetics department, past senior vice president of a major teaching hospital, and currently as a consultant in health care management; * her contributions to dietetics practice as Chairman of the Division of Educators and the Council on Practice, and as a member of the Dietetic Educators of Practitioners Board; * her leadership in the Massachussetts Dietetic Association in numerous positions including President and Delegate; * her innovations in advancing the role of the dietitian and dietetic technicians as members of the health care team; * her exemplary professional and personal standards that serve as an inspiration to her students and colleagues.

Members honored with Excellence inPractice Awards t the 76th Annual Meeting, ADA and its Foundation honored five dietitians for their excellence in practice. The awards, which carry a $1,000 honorarium, recognize an outstanding dietitian who has demonstrated excellence in his or her specific area of practice. Ann M. Coulston, MS, RD, Senior Research Dietitian, Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, Calif, was given the Award for Excellence in Dietetic Research, which is supported by a grant from the National Dairy Council. James F. Hailing, MS, RD, Director/Chairman, Associate Professor of Department of Dietetics and Nutrition at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, was given the Award for Excellence in Management Practice, which is supported by a grant from ARA Services, Inc.

Mary Ellen Posthauer, RD, President, M.E.P. Healthcare Dietary Services, Inc, Evansville, Ind, was given the Award for Excellence in Consultation and Private Practice, which is supported by a grant from WASA Crispbread, a division of Sandoz Nutrition. Margaret Powers, MS, RD, Owner, Powers and Associates, St Paul, Minn, was given the Award for Excellence in Clinical Nutrition, which is supported by a grant from Ross Laboratories. Carol W. Shanklin, PhD, RD, Professor and Graduate Program Director, Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan, was given the Award for Excellence in Dietetic Education, which is supported by a grant from Quaker Oats Company. Mary G. (Meg) Speer, RD, Dietitian, Eastern Star Masonic Home, Boone, Iowa and Bethany Manor, Story City, Iowa, was given the Award for Excellence in Community Dietetics, which is supported by a grant from Ross Laboratories.
