Message from the Organizing Committee of the first 2011 International Conference on Environment Science and Biotechnology (ICESB 2011) On behalf of the organising committee, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to all delegates to the first 2011 International Conference on Environment Science and Biotechnology (ICESB 2011), Male, Maldives. The ICESB conference offers researchers from all over the world the opportunity to meet with colleagues, exchange research ideas and share new knowledge. The conference is organised by Asia-Pacific Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering Society (APCBEES). The 2011 Conference features a strong technical program including technical sessions and keynote addresses, that cover topics of current interest in the area of Environment Science and Biotechnology including Biochemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Product Engineering in the Bio Industries, Selforganisation in the Bio-sciences and elsewhere, Delivery of the final product, Biotechnology applied to production of new and better quality food, Biological natural resource engineering, Bioprocess and Biosystems, Biotechnology for Livestock, Pests and Aquaculture, Cutting Edge Science for Future Animal Agriculture, Ecological Engineering, Emerging technologies in Agriculture and Livestock, Energy in agriculture, Environmental constraints to animal agriculture, Food Engineering and biotechnology, Food safety and Bio-process engineering, Food traceability and safety, GPS and GIS technologies, Industry Transformation - Case Studies and Livestock Biotechnology. We have received more than 280 papers from all over the world which were peer-reviewed and finally 116 papers from 20 countries have been accepted for the presentation at the conference. We are convinced that this unique gathering of experts will guarantee rich, useful, and effective deliberations. This year the ICESB conference is held in Male, the capital of Maldives. The Maldives was largely terra incognita for tourists until the early 1970s. Strewn across the equator in the Indian Ocean, the Maldives archipelago possesses a truly unique geography as a small island country. We do hope you will take some time to enjoy and appreciate what Maldives and its surrounding have to offer. Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all members of the organising committee, the technical program committee, keynote speakers, and reviewers for their dedication and contribution to the conference; without their tireless work, the conference would not be a success. I would like to thank in particular, Prof. Richard Haynes, Prof. Bogdan zygmunt and Dr. Yang Dan for their extra hard work in ensuring that the smooth operation of the conference.
