MODEC picks VWS Westgarth for Brazilian seawater treatment project
M
ODEC has selected VWS Westgarth and VWS Brazil to supply a seawater treatment package for a project development offshore Brazil. The seawater treatment package is a completed single-lift module comprising coarse strainers, media filtration pretreatment, vacuum deaeration and sulphate removal process (SRP) systems with a product capacity of 24 000 m3/day (150 972 BWPD). The contract will be project managed and engineered in VWS Westgarth’s offices in East Kilbride, Glasgow. VWS Brazil will provide local engineering support, project management, local procurement and supervision of the module fabrication from its Rio de Janeiro office base. The SRP is designed to remove sulphates and other divalent hardness ions from injection water to enhance oil recovery using Dow/Filmtec SR90-440i membranes. The removal of these ions reduces the tendency of barium sulphate and strontium sulphate scale to form in the reservoir and prevent well souring by controlling sulphate reducing bacteria.

Foster Wheeler contracted for new Turkish refinery
S
ocar & Turcas Rafineri AS has selected Foster Wheeler AG’s Global Engineering and Construction Group for its planned grassroots refinery to be built within the Petkim Petrokimya AS facilities at Aliaga, Turkey. The contracts cover overall front-end engineering design for the new refinery and the license and basic design package for the delayed coker, which will use Foster Wheeler’s SYDECSM delayed coking technology. The planned new facility will have a capacity of 214 000 barrels per stream day (BPSD). The refinery will include crude and vacuum distillation units, naphtha hydrotreating, a 40 000 BPSD delayed coking unit, a 66 000 BPSD hydrocracking unit, kerosene and diesel hydrotreaters, LPG caustic treatment units, a 28 000 BPSD continuous catalytic reformer, a saturated gas unit, an amine and sour water stripper, sulfur and tail gas treatment units and a 160 000 Nm3/h hydrogen unit, as well as utilities, auxiliary systems and offsite facilities.

odern Water plc’s trial of its desalination plant with the Omani Public Authority for Electricity and Water (PAEW) will continue for a further six months. The desalination plant in Al Khaluf is the first in the Middle East to use Modern Water’s Manipulated Osmosis process.

heniere Energy Partners LP is to add liquefaction services at its Sabine Pass LNG receiving terminal in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, USA. Liquefaction capabilities would transform the Sabine Pass terminal into a bi-directional facility capable of liquefying and exporting natural gas in addition to importing and regasifying foreign-sourced LNG. The Sabine Pass site can accommodate up to four LNG trains capable of processing approximately 2 Bcf/d of natural gas. The capacity of each liquefaction train would be approximately 3.5 million tons per annum. The initial project would include two trains with liquefaction capacity of 1 Bcf/d.
Cheniere plans to work with Bechtel Oil Gas and Chemicals Inc to design and construct the liquefaction facilities, using the ConocoPhillips Optimized Cascade liquefaction technology.
KBR to develop Araromi refinery project in Nigeria

ouston-based FPR Inc has selected KBR to provide design and early engineering services for the development of the Araromi Refinery Project in the OK Free Trade Zone (OKFTZ) in Nigeria. KBR will execute the design and early engineering services for a low complexity 160 000 barrels per day greenfield refinery and marine facility in a project estimated to be worth more than US$3 billion. The refinery will produce motor gasoline, automotive gas oil, kerosene and jet fuel. The Araromi Refinery Project will be developed in phases, with an ultimate capacity of 320 000 barrels per day with a full petrochemical complex.
AMEC awarded South Hook LNG Terminal contract

outh Hook LNG Terminal Co Ltd has appointed AMEC to undertake a three-year term services contract for the South Hook Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminal in South Wales. AMEC’s scope of work includes engineering conceptual design, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning and project management services. AMEC will be working in collaboration with Black and Veatch Ltd on this project.
