A Basic Pharmaceutics Section morning symposium co-sponsored by Pharmaceutical Analysis and Control and Industrial Pharmaceutical Technology Sections. G. Irwin will chair this morning session with F. Kein (West Rubber Company), P. Campbell (Phillips Petroleum) and E. Schmitt (Alza Research). "Research in an Era of Crisis. Tuesday, November 18 "Topical Delivery Systems I-Theory and Evaluation. " An Industrial Pharmaceutical Technology morning symposium moderated by T. J. Roseman and J. Weiss and includes as speakers B. Poulsen (Syntex), J. Turi (Upjohn), S. Mehta (Parke-Davis), R. Stoughton (Scripps Research) and S. K. Chandrasekaran (Alza). "Topical Delivery Systems 11- Technology of Topicals" continues this Industrial Pharmaceutical Technology Symposium in the afternoon and it is chaired by L. Augsburger and J. Turi. The presenters are R. Goldenberg (Rakuma Labs), R. A. Nash (Lederle) and J. Wood (Medical College of Virginia). "Topics in Medicinal Chemistry I" is sponsored by the Medicinal Chemistry Section . This morning session includes presentations by A. Cammarata (Temple), L. Kier (Massachusetts) and P. Portoghese (Minnesota). "Topics in Medicinal Chemistry II." New APS Officers George Zografi, as president-elect, heads the new slate of the APhA Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences elected by mail ballot of the members. Zografi is dean of the school of pharmacy, University of Wisconsin, Madison, Wisconsin, and currently a member-at-Iarge of the APS executive committee. Other winning candidates for Academy office are August P. Lemberger and James T. Doluisio. Vice president-elect Lemberger is dean of college of pharmacy, University of Illinois. Doluisio was balloted memberat-large of the executive committee (1976-1979). He is dean of the college of pharmacy, University of Texas.

Chairman will be C. Cavallito with speakers T. Scarlett (FDA), W. Jackson (FDA), A. Kushen (Schering), H. S. Perdue (Ayerst) and N. Latker (NIH). A question and answer session will follow the presentations. Thursday, November 20 "Toxicity of Biomedical Materials. " Morning session, arranged by the Pharmacology and Toxicology Section and chaired by J. Autian. Speakers for the session include R. Petersen (Utah), S. Kevy (Childrens Hospital-Boston), E. O. Dillingham (Tennessee) and C. Bruch (FDA). In addition, to the symposiia listed here, there are over 185 contribu1ted papers to be presented Monday through Thursday.
