Elnik's prospects on the up and up at home and abroad THINGS are looking up for PVA MIMtech, LLC, Elnik Systems Division, the New Jersey-based MIM furnace builder. While MD Claus Joens is quick to point out that his company builds several types of furnaces servicing the heat treatment, annealing and brazing markets, the highly specialised MIM/PM sector is showing signs of strong growth. Last year Elnik shipped five of their "one-step debind and sinter" MIM3000 series furnaces - valued at between $250 000 and $650 000 each,

depending on model. Of these three were exported and two sold in the North American domestic market. However, this year the company has already exported two MIM3000 furnaces and delivered one in the domestic market and has a production backlog of another seven furnaces, three for export and the rest destined for domestic customers. They are currently negotiating the sale of a further five furnaces for delivery before year's end. Some 18 months ago PVA MIMtech LLC was
established together with the German company, PVA TePla AG, of Asslar for the acquisition of Elnik Systems. "Our affiliation with PVA TePla has certainly been helpful with overseas sales, especially in Europe, says Mr. Joens. There may be additional sales as a result of our co-operation that are not included in current listings." PVA TePla is a leading global supplier of thermal processing equipment for hardmetal sintering, crystal growing and surface activation using plasma.
New atomiser for Madrid university THE Universidad Carlos III de Madrid has ordered a highly flexible, dual-purpose research and development atomiser from Atomising Systems Ltd of Sheffield, UK. It allows atomisation of many types of metals and alloys by gas or water. ASL has a number of customers who tailor-make small quantities of powders to order using similar machines in industry, so this is by no means restricted to R&D. They recognise the value of the felxibility allowed by the dual modes in optimising powders for particular applications. The 10kg atomiser will be commissioned in the third quarter of 2004.
