We are pleased to announce that Dr. Curt Covey has joined the editorial team of Globaland Planetary Change. He succeeds Eric Barron who has stepped down from this position. For those readers who may not know Dr. Covey personally, the following background information should be of interest. Curt Covey received a Master’s
in Biology (1975) and in Physics (1978) from the University of California Santa Barbara. In 1982 he received a Ph.D. from the University of California Los Angeles where he conducted research on planetary-scale waves in the Venus atmosphere. From 1982 to 1983 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Center for Atmospheric Research. In the period from 1984 to 1987 he was Assistant Professor in the Division of Meteorology and Physical Oceanography at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science in Miami. Since 1987 he has held a position as physicist at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Global Climate Research Division; his research interests cover studies of the atmosphere, oceans and environment of the Earth plus extraterrestrial atmospheres and climates. Dr. Covey is a member of the American Geophysical Union, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Astronomical Society, Division for Planetary Sciences. We welcome Dr. Covey to the Board of Editors and wish him much success in his new role.
