Jed J. Jacobson, DDS, MS, MPH, became the new editor of the section of Oral Medicine in January 1995. Dr. Jacobson received his dental degree from the University of Michigan, his Master of Science from the University of Michigan in oral diagnosis-radiology, and his Master of Public Health from the University of California, Los Angeles in health service administration. He has been teaching full-time at the University of Michigan since 1982 except for a 1-year visiting professorship at the University of California, Los Angeles. He is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Dental Association, American Academy of Oral Medicine, International Association for Dental Research, American Association of Dental Schools, and the Organization of Teachers of Oral Diagnosis. Dr. Jacobson has been heavily involved in research and has been the principal investigator for grants totaling nearly $500,000. He has been a co-investigator in a number of additional research efforts. As a result of this research effort, Dr. Jacobson has published many articles in the dental literature.
